Am I the only person who pretty much hates Metallica?

So basically accessibility made Metallica the giants people see them as? Personally ive always hated James's vocals and in fact it kinda reminds me of Nu-metal and Nickelback type voices.

Here we go...........time for some Nickelback hate. :uh:

I have to digress, I'm not a fan of James' vocal style either. BUT he is nothing even remotely similar to Chad.......JM2C

Honestly James vocals really do remind me of that type of music. Its sorta low pitched redneck thing going not really country but late southern rock I guess. Im not good at describing these things but I feel Metallica transcended so well into pop because his voice was perfect for a 90s rock group more so than it was for thrash. Dont take me out of context please Im not good at wording this stuff. I much prefer vocals like what Destruction, Bathory, or Watchtower had.

I can't think of many vocalists who have changed over the years as much as James Hetfield's. KEA doesn't sound like Black Album vocals which don't sound like DM vocals..etc etc. The "low pitch redneck" was his vocals for a few songs in the mid To say that covers his whole career would be incorrect.

I understand you have your preferences. I'm not real familiar with Destruction or Watchtower but I do know of Bathory.......and these vocalists are not suppose to sound like James Hetfield. Total different category of music style and yes they do vocalize in deep tones....although i dont see where you get the redneck association from....lol.

I associate Bathory with Viking metal (IMHO their best work) though I know they have dabbled in the thrash/speed/death/black metal, too. I'm sorry, but I can barely understand the lyrics of their thrash/death stuff. The vocals are extreme, that's for sure; loaded with shrieks, screams, and growls. I don't really associate those extreme vocal styles with thrash.....maybe more suited to black/death metal.

I'm sure you are aware that Metallica, actually the big 4, paved the way for some of these more extreme, hardcore metal bands. I do respect Metallica for that, and there are songs from Metallica I really enjoy. But as a whole, I'm not fond of Metallica or James Hetfield as a vocalist. I feel he is mediocre, ya know.

Its more prevalent in certain eras of the band but he's always seemed to have a bit of redneck in there, at least from my perspective. I don't think thrash always call for a good voice I mean Megadeth and Voivod don't have great voices but they fit perfect with the music. That said I straight up dislike James's voice.

I'm not a fan of Megadeth, either. I do have Voivod's first album, War and Pain, and Snake is a HORRID vocalist, but it does fit the music. He sounds like he has a mouth full of shit when he sings either that or a swollen tongue. His growls are even bad, like grunting to have a bowel movement, which are off key.

I guess these just aren't my cuppa tea.

Morbid Saint had some pretty harsh vocals. I don't see why its important to hear the lyrics in music this extreme. Perhaps poor example using Bathory but how about Overkill? Oh and Bathory best stuff was what he did from 1986-1990 IMHO. Also a lot of these bands were around before or at the same time as Metallica.

This came out the same year as Kill em all. Its considered punk but it shares a lot of elements with thrash. Its heavier, faster, and much catchier than Kill em all.

His vocals significantly improved when the band went into a more progressive metal direction starting with Killing Technology. His streagnth was always more so in his attitude than his voice though.
