UFO, Nazareth?
Best forgotten bands/albums of the 70's include
Uriah Heep, especially the early David Byron albums
Golden Earring - Contraband, Switch, Wall of Dolls, Together, Eight Miles High
Pink Floyd - Meddle, Ummagumma
Lighthouse - One Fine Morning, Live, Sunny Days - Brilliant jazzy pop/rock Canadian band, much better than blood sweat & tears or chicago
Circus - In the Arena (South African band)
Camel - Snow Goose
Yes - Tormato (in my opinion, much better than the sum of reviews)
Rodriguez - Cold Fact (recently rediscovered by the world because of the film)
Eric Anderson (who should have been great)
Harry Chapin (great storytelling songs)
Chris de Burgh - Spanish Train and other stories, Far beyond these castle walls
Budgie - most of their early albums
Audience - The House on the hill; Friends, Friends, Friend; Lunch
Babe Ruth - Babe Ruth, First Base
Jeff Beck - Truth (maybe not forgotten, but unavailable for a long time now)
Black sabbath - Technical Ecstacy, Sabotage, Never say die (and all the well known ones)
Jeff Buckley - Grace (may have been from the early 80's, but still a great forgotten album)
Colloseum - great jazz rock band with excellent albums, especially Colluseum Live
Free - all their albums featuring some excellent hard rock
Genesis - the Peter Gabriel abums (which I consider to be the real Genesis), except for the first one
Heart - Little Queen as well as the other 70's albums, before the 80's cheese
Roy Harper - Stormcock (another classic robbed by bad marketing at the time. This album should have been HUGE)
Ken Hensley - Proud words on a dusty shelf, Eager to Please
Supertramp - All the Roger Hodgson/Rick Davies albums
Judas Priests's early albums, pre- British Steel. Great albums like Unleashed in the east, Killer, Sin after sin
Little Feat
Ten Years After
Moody Blues
Shawn Phillips - Second Contribution, Transcendence
Xit - Plight of the red man, Silent Warrior
The flaw in that post is that many, no, virtually all, of those bands, have NOT been forgotten.

I think you can add Renaissance to this list, especially their early albums, a very underrated progressive/rock band in my opinion.
That's early 90's, and certainly not forgottten where I live (Belgium).
Also, if you live in South-Africa, you shouldn't list Rodriguez as a forgotten artist. It's the only country were "Cold fact" was even a hit! I remember that when I was there (2003-2004), it was considered just as big a classic as, say, "Hotel California" or "Blood on the tracks".
