Well, I'm more a Beefheart fan than a Zappa follower.

However, I think that 'Roxy & Elsewhere' (1974) is one of the very best live albums of the seventies. This record shows why serious critics rank Frank among the greatest guitarists....

First thing i ever saw/heard of Zappa was that YT vid

Ever since OverniteSensation's Dirty Love has remained one of my very very most favourite Zappa tunes.
It may very well be a major case of sentimental "The song that got me into BandX - Syndrom" but I dig that tune till this day.

Is anyone familiar with Zappa's appearance on the original "Saturday Night Live".He did "I'm the Slime" and some other number that I can't recall the title of,but it was really very interesting.A kind of avant garde conceptual art symphony.I was also highly impressed by "Freak Out".One only needs to delve into the Zappa catalog to a small degree(if they listen to some of his better works)to see the creative geniuis he was. What can you tell me about "We're Only in it For the Money"?I heard this was probably his greatest work.

Can not tell you a lot about We're Only in it For the Money. Haven't listened to it a while now. Some would say Hot Rats is his greatest work. Do you know that album?

Not yet,but I've always heard wonderful feedback here.Just about every Zappa album has had considerable praise from the critics.I know one necessitates a very certain type of taste for experimental music, but if one does, from the material I HAVE heard,Frank's catalog might possibly be the best place to start. Also,Velvet Underground and early Pink Floyd. As any true classic rock fans know,it is,fo course, far better to listen to the innovators rather than the imitators.Or at least artists that haven't sold out the mainstream, which today is sadly rampant in the recording industry..........

Try some Captain Beefheart if you haven't already. Safe as Milk, The Spoltight Kid and Clear Spot are very good.

I have heard, and very much enjoyed,"Trout Mask Replica".are any othe titles you've mentioned similar at all in style to this work full of psychedelic surrealisitic poetry mixed with some rather interesting rock jazz musical pieces,or did he go into some alternate directions with different releases?Footnote:"Trout Mask" generally places inside the top sixty when critics and fellow musicians rank the greatest works in all of rock history. And quite deservedly so.......................

wow never replied to frank!
Frank was the man been a fan since the mid 70's.
I first started listen to Frank when I heard "Don't you eat that Yellow Snow" and "Cosmik Debris" Quickly started delving into his early works and the Mothers stuff. Fan of almost all of Frank's early albums and love his guitar sounds and silly lyrics.

I saw Frank Zappa several times from 78-85 including two of his famous Halloween shows. The first one I went to in 1978 went on for 4 hours and was one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Here it is
