An Australian news radio station is reporting that AC/DC‘s planned 40th anniversary tour might not take place, and that the legendary group may announce that they will never “perform again or record again” as early as today.

It’s important to note that the band has not confirmed or commented on this rumor, which emerged from 3AW News Talk entertainment reporter Peter Ford. He contends that rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young “has returned to Australia to live with his family and for his own personal reasons may not want to continue with the band.”

The article explains that AC/DC “have a pact that they will not get anyone else in the group; nobody will be replaced and when somebody leaves, the group ends.” Ford goes on to say on Twitter that health concerns for an unspecified member of the band may be behind this rumored decision: “There is some quite sad detail about it all, that I will not be reporting on, but the band/management may choose to reveal this.”

Back in February, singer Brian Johnson announced that the group would release a new album — their first since 2008′s ‘Black Ice’ — and embark on a 40-date world tour to commemorate their 40 years as a band. Reports of a health issue for one of the band members first turned up in 2012, when Johnson explained the reason the band was taking so long to return to action: “One of the boys is a little sick and I can’t say anything, but he’s getting better. He’s doing wonderful. Full recovery fully expected.”

Update No. 1: A report from the Australian disputes this story, stating that the band is scheduled to enter a recording studio on May 1 to begin work on a new album.

Malcolm took a leave of absence years ago to kick his alcohol addiction, but that was a long time ago.

Could be he's burned out and just wants to enjoy life with his family, hopefully nothing really serious has happened to anyone in his family that would be all the reason I'd need to hang up my guitar.

Have to wait and see what happens next.

I was just listening to "High Voltage" yesterday. It's amazing how far the band has come since the early days. Their style however has not changed a bit.

Why fix what isn't broken?

Anyway like said I will at least wait until the band addresses the rumours before I have an opinion. I choose not to believe everything I read. Considering Mark Evans is behind some of the rumours even more reason to not buy into this before the band actually address it.

Rumor is 61 year old Malcolm Young had a stroke, can't play like he wants to or needs to! Sad if its true, one of my favorite bands for about 35 years!!!!
