Kiss more famous, than Scorpions, Leppard, Purple and Maiden!? I doubt it.

I like the Scorpions and Def Leppard more than Kiss but they are not more famous than Kiss

Ok,just read your next post-So in America they are more famous

If we'll talk about Europe (and it's a huge rock-market, agree), then here Kiss much less popular, than Scorps or Maiden. Much less, seriously. Although in the USA situation can be opposite. 2_sm5.gif
Well the idea of any hall of fame is not only popularity of the individual but rather if they brought any unique aspect or exemplified any unique aspect of the art, sport, profession, whatever. With this in mind it is kind of silly that Kiss wasn't among the first batch inducted.

I agree some of those bands are very deserving of HOF acclaim but Kiss is at the very pinnacle of Theatrical rock and arguably one of the pioneers of glam metal and other garbage that while I might not be a fan of are no doubt part of rock and roll history.

Yeah probably so, I definitely worded that wrong. More like KISS can compete in fame with all of those bands. In the US I'd say it could be argued that for the general public KISS is probably the most well known, due to the marketing most likely, for sure more than Purple, Scorpions, etc. I think we can agree that the US is more about the marketing than the music and nobody competes with KISS marketing. You'll never see Maiden, Scorpions, Deep Purple on tv here in the US. You for sure won't hear Maiden on the radio. But that's a different argument for a different discussion. The point is KISS belongs in the same HOF as bands like that.

Anyway, in Marsh's argument he suggest that Kiss hasd no real influence on rock music and then later says bands like Pantera should be in when Pantera is a band that would proudly say that KISS was a major influence. Hell, Dimebag is in a KISS casket!
Well said Pappy.

Musically, I was done with them before I ever turned the first album over to the second side.

When you're about to go off on a condescending rant about a band that's been around long enough to sell in the neighborhood of 75,000,000 albums, I question the wisdom of admitting you quit listening after 5 songs.

Pretty sure it's over 100M albums and that's just in the U.S. alone.

I'm with you on the rest of your post though :****: Dave Marsh is a washed up, worn out dildo. His opinion carrys less value to me than a handful of used toilet paper.

I still don't understand why Kiss are so maligned. They never pretended to be anything other than exactly what they were, released a live LP that is a recognised classic (Alive!) and much of what they got up to was a lot of fun. There's always room and the music industry would have been poorer for not having them around. I mean, common, they wore full character make up, their bass player breathed fire and they had albums with names like 'Hotter Than Hell' and 'Dressed To Kill'. And how bad can any band be that had the sheer black humour to market and sell their very own Kiss coffin!

And what's so shocking about Gene Simmons propensity for being vocal about his capitalist views? No hip hop artist is criticised for such outright expressions. Want to see an example of distasteful? Nothing Kiss have done has been so downright nasty in its decadent outlook than Bon Jovi's Work book (see relevant thread).

Enough with the Kiss bashing already, Dave.

11 artist so big, they're recognized by one name. And that's in the first two years of inductions alone. Nary a 'rock and roll' act in the bunch.

Considering the non-existence of any sort of criteria these cats go by when deciding who's in or out, a person is almost forced to believe the RARHOF has more to do with fame than rock and roll.

And if that's the case, then KISS should have been in years ago.

Yeah Dave your cool so you saw the NY Dolls and thought that is what rock is and everything else is just crap and has no influence. If you got your head out of your ass and understood the music industry and didn't get turned off to things you don't like then maybe I'll take your opinion more seriously. KISS has no influence, please hell and I'm not even a fan of them.

You have the same BS thoughts about prog but I find more and more influences in modern rock from prog that you have always stated never influenced anything. This is why you can't judge bands in the past about influence you never know what is going to happen next.

In regards to the R & R Hall of fame. I saw someone mention it should be the music Hall of Fame. Your on the right track but that doesn't work either or you would have to include jazz and classical. I've always understood that the rock & roll hall of fame is more than just straight rock so most of the selections don't surprise me although they wouldn't be my picks.
