Doggone it, Soot!
I've been chewing on this idea for a thread for months!
I was gonna call it 'Your (Musical) Drug Of Choice'
Ah, well. Doesn't matter, as long as the thread gets made.
Anyhow, there are three specific things I simply cannot help but love in some songs.
1. Harmonies.
It's something I've always marveled at.
Whether it's 2, 3, 4 or more parts, the concept doesn't change.
Single notes put together to create a chord, with no enhancement or processing, that appeals to me.
It's a very primal and organic aspect of music.
Which brings me to...
2. A good foot bass.
There's also something very base and primal about a drummer boom-boom-booming at the bottom of a song.
What I find most interesting is a drummer can take that one note and simply by changing the way he uses it, a song can be funky, straight rock, relentlessly driving, danceable, etc.
That's a lot of control for one foot. Well, sometimes 2 feet.
3. This one may be kinda weird, but a string arrangement in rock music has always been an attraction to me.
The Rain Song
Drops Of Jupiter
Through The Ghost
Mad World
Too many for me to list. It's the 'that instrument doesn't belong here' factor that appeals to me.
I also get stoked for a mean brass section.
