How do some bands get their name ? Boredom?:bonk:

This gothic/death rock band from Uruguay must have sat down for weeks on end to come up with RRRRRRR
Yep that's RRRRRRR [ 7 Rs...why 7 and not 6 or 66 I don't know :heheh:]

This South African band has one of the worst names I have ever heard of... not exactly bad by itself, but it's an awful name for a rock band!

...but they do have a pretty good version of April Wine's "Oowatanite".

( edit: gotta love the bikini crotch-shot in the "O" of their logo, too!

I completely agree with what Riff Raff has posted regarding metal band names, I'm a huge metal fan myself, shock value seldom has anything to do with it. Some of the names are very creative and very appealing to fans, most common names folks come across are Cannibal Corpse or Deicide, both are absolutely fine and I like them bands very much, the musicianship is top notch and in some slabs of metal are out of the world and the names suit what the bands write and sing (growl!) about.

I cannot stand the names of most of the countless unheard-of indie bands that have cropped up in the last 5 to 10 years! For example:

Cut Copy (seriously?? you left out paste, btw!)
Minus The Bear (what the heck is that supposed to mean anyway?)
Of Montreal
Shearwater (see minus the bear)
Okkervil River
Chvrches (I hate this... putting "v" for "u".. how original!)
Bat For Lashes
Run The Jewels (what's up with the random "the" usage??? minus the bear. chance the rapper. run the jewels)

Is it just me?? Sorry, it's a pet peeve but I hate most indie band names!

In the 80's there was a band named Snatch. The first album was called "If there's a party in your mouth, we're coming.." I figured that they had to be a joke band.

A lot of the death metal bands have such ornate funky caligraphy on their names, that you can't even read them. Even if the band name ends up being something you can pronounce, who wants to try to decipher it on the album? :)

There's a Spanish thrash band called F*** Off, except they don't use the asterisks. I suppose their fans think it's a lovely name.
