If you were to classify their catalog by eras to my mind it would be :

70's : hard southern rock...blues is in almost All rock forums to some extent.

80's : power/pop rock ...definitely NOT southern rock by sound

latest stuff : more toned down then the 70's stuff ...so basically blues rock

New one : return to blues based hard rock of old but still lacking a bit of the fire due to age ...less fret dexterity.

I think yes, it is true that they mix classic blues rock, boogie or rock but all that is into Southern rock, their 70s sound also include many energetic riffs, long guitar solos. etc

No, not even close.

"rock"
"blues rock"
"rockin' blues"
"suthern' fried rock" (at times)

"hard rock"? Nope, not at all.

Well, they are certainly not ''soft rock'', so I voted yes :heheh:

But, I would agree ZZ Top is southern / blues rock band with a hard rock edge.
