Not the King of England, not King Crimson, not even King Kong! I am of course referring to the late, the great Elvis Presley, the king of rock n' roll!

Elvis was born in 1935, entered the music business in 1953 and played until his untimely and controversial death in 1977.

In this time, he has become one of the most influential figures in music of all time. With 23 studio albums and 18 no.1 singles, his deep, trembling voice has become an icon of the century. Even to this day, he inspires many to dress up and impersonate him, (I do a pretty good one after a few cold ones :lmao:) to play his music on the radio still, and even appear on jukeboxes and kareoke machines.

Elvis' music is truly timeless, and although he passed away 32 years ago, he is and will always be remembered as a great of the industry.

Awesome Job Sal! Our list of legends just became that much more complete! :grinthumb

Was there ever one man who became practically everything to everyone at once. Young and old loved him! People loved his rebellion and those who didn't forgave him. He sang for rock fans, country fans, gospel fans, etc. So for my contribution I'll post my favorite Elvis tune before someone else grabs it:

:) Good to see a nice thread on the king. I'm not a big fan myself but I recognise talent when I see it (in most cases)...

I'm probably a bit early on this one but if you feel the need to start a discussion in here (about elvis ofc.) feel free to do so! But don't let it heat up!

Very nice, my Mom had quite a few Elvis albums and played them when I was growing up. "Jailhouse Rock", and "Hound Dog" are two songs I will never forget.

I love the early Elvis & I also love that 1968 comeback special where he wore all black leather & just did all old rock & roll tunes. He seemed a bit wasted on that performance but it was a lot of fun!

I am not a huge Elvis music fan, but I sure do love his movies :D

I once read that Elvis ate bacon every morning, and at hotels if they didn't have the bacon cooked just right (in his case burned crisp) he would throw a fit. He once shot up the ceiling in a hotel over under cooked bacon. :heheh:

Seriously bacon every day?

That would have caused him health problems without any of his other addictions.

I'm surprised there wasn't already an Elvis Presley thread :p
Yes, Elvis sure was great. Thanks to him, rock n roll was suddenly thrust into the mainstream, and many great acts were able to follow in his footsteps. It's a shame his life went downhill so fast and so visibly :(

Ah, the King. Love all his work. I currently only own 3 albums - Elv1s, 2nd to None (both compilations) and Loving You (early album from 50's).

Here's a favourite of mine:
