Outside of the long-running debate about Led Zeppelin getting back together to record some new material, the next best thing could possibly happen. Robert Plant revealed that he has discovered some previously unreleased material from the group that could soon see the light of day.

“I found some quarter-inch spools recently,” he told BBC 6. “And there’s some very, very interesting bits and pieces that probably will turn up [soon].”

Plant is looking to use the tapes as bonus tracks on the reissues that are expected in 2014. They already have Jimmy Page‘s approval, but John Paul Jones is particularly interested in making sure that some of them don’t wind up on the shelves.

“I’m desperately trying to [use] this one track – or the two tracks – [with] John Paul Jones singing lead,” Plant continued. “And so far [Jones is] up to giving me two cars and a greenhouse [to leave] them [off] the album.”

That said, Jones may be too busy these days to notice. He is currently working on an operatic adaptation of ‘The Ghost Sonata,’ a 1908 play by Swedish writer August Strindberg.

Could end up being decent even if it is b-sides.

I can't wait for LG to come and say he's not interested in another remasters with bonus tracks and he's happy with vinyl copies. :heheh:

Meh, if it's been "missing" for this long, how good can it be? Anything they were that proud of you would think wouldn't have been "lost" for 30+ years. *shrug*

I'm sure the diehards will be waiting at the doors when it's released, so I'm happy for them.

There will always be a big market for this sort of archived stuff, I don't know how many albums full of stuff that originally ended up on the studio cutting room floor Dylan has so far released (last time I checked there were 10 volumes of the 'Bootleg' series released) and there has been released about 4 times as many albums of Hendrix stuff since he died than he ever released when he was alive (he only ever made 3 studio albums whilst alive, and so far there have been 12 posthumous releases)

Getting The Led Out...

When Coda was released, the band mentioned of how there was hardly anything in the vaults worth putting out. I guess a bit of trawling about uncovered some things. I am aware of the alternate takes and instrumentals already out. Not really excited about whatever it is they plan on releasing but I will get them regardless just because.

I see you know how I feel about all these...lost treasures Nolo. :D

Sometimes there are some good songs laying about that the band lost track of but usually they are not up to the quality we expect from legendary artists. I'm with Cosmic I don't need "Coda Mk II" in the collection...I don't know if I'll ever listen to the 1st Coda again either.

Led Zeppelin was my favorite band through high school and half of college - then I discovered Talking Heads - but I have to agree that things that weren't good enough to make it to earlier releases probably can't be that good. However, I am curious. Maybe there's a gem or two hidden in the mix. I'm not holding my breath, though.
