The opinions of Australia's hip hop scene are often divided, some think it's weak pap that doesn't hold a candle to what the U.S has produced, others love the diversity of styles and musical exploration the genre is known for over here. I'm obviously in the latter category, and since being introduced last year I've grown a steady collection of great music!

This thread is not just about plugging my own stuff though, I'll be going through some of the more notable artists in our short history, the music that's hot at the moment and whatever else I can find in my traverses! :D

Starting with my personal favourite, and the band in the opening picture, Bliss N' Eso.

Bliss N Eso are a Sydney based formed in 2000, who have since released 4 albums. They came to national prominence on the back of their third album, "Flying Colours"

With a brilliant album cover and a host of collaborations from a wide range of musicians, it's a challenging album full of heart with often thought provoking lyrics.

They got to no.1 and to my ears with their fourth album, "Running On Air"

A heavier themed album, some of the passages are deep and emotional while the music that surrounds it is IMO their best yet. This song is my favourite:

A close second is "Addicted" which ironically is very hard to stop listening to:

I didn't forget about this I swear! :heheh:

Lately some established and breakthrough Australian artists have been pumping out some good new beats, starting with...

Hilltop Hoods

Hilltop Hoods are a three piece rap band from Adelaide and formed in 1991. They shot to prominence with their hit "Nosebleed Section" which sampled Melanie Safka:

They have 6 albums released to date and the last three have been no.1 in Australia. They have become a force in Aussie hip hop and just released released a brand new single and plans for another album to be released early next year. Personally I only have their most recent, 2012's "Drinking From The Sun".

For the first single they teamed up with American singer Sia for "I Love It"

But the song that really made me take note was "Chase That Feeling"

The new album is going to be called "Walking On Stars" and already it is shaping up to be an epic. This is currently the only version of the first single, "Lights Out"

For a rap group that has been around for over 20 years, to be making IMO some of their best music to date is quite an achievement and the reputation they've gained around the country is amazing considering how small the scene was before they got on board!
