Bought the self titled debut album the other day and enjoy each second of it.
One Long Day stands out for me actually having not heard that one since I was little.

The difference between COLD CHISEL and most English/ North American classic rock bands is consistency.

The truth is that while COLD CHISEL have some good songs, their albums on the whole SUCK ! I was curious to hear their other material based on their radio songs only to find that what you hear on the radio is the best. The rest is boring, weak and forgetable.

They remind me of most Aussie bands......inconsistant.

INXS were consistently good with Michael Hutchence (in my opinion). I know they were marketed for girls, but I liked their soulful funk-rock style and the fact that their big lineup gave them a full live sound. I expected them to continue without Hutchence, but he was probably a hard act to follow.

AC/DC are consistent to a fault! I know there are lots of other Aussie bands, but they don't get much exposure here.

I haven't heard much Cold Chisel, but Jimmy Barnes seems an interesting singer.

AC/DC are probably the only truly good classic rock band from downunder.

There's always good songs from certain albums from other artists but Australia was backward in the 60's into the 70's. It reflects this in their albums.

I like some early INXS but they're not classic rock in any sense. We had it shoved down our throats while you guys rocked to Van Halen and the NWOBHM. There was no internet or cable tv channels so we had to read 3 month old magazines or watch what our non-existent 5 tv channels presented.

Most larger rock bands gave Australia the flick and only bothered to tour much later on in their careers.
YES managed to sell out 2 solid nights in Sydney with no airplay besides Owner Of A Lonely Heart (so we do know what good music is). Much unlike the Scorpions who've never toured (pity really).

But one band did the almost impossible and toured twice....my beloved BUDGIE....!!!

^ That's quite a sad tale you tell, zambo.

What about Billy Thorpe? It did not chart very high in the UK (with Hawkwind, Mott, Alice in the charts), but it did get some airplay and my friends and I loved this record. The song itself is extremely catchy and memorable, while the instrumental passages are as good as anything from the US/UK bands.

AC/DC were a cult band here until Back in Black, which was played to death on the radio. Some of us were thinking, "What's going on, you've ignored their best material (Let There Be Rock)?" Even far-sighted rock DJ Alan Freeman (who's an Aussie) neglected them until For Those About to Rock, which he played over and over, along with copy bands like Rockhead.

I am not being ironic here, but I grew up with Frank Ifield and Rolf Harris (both were ubiquitous on radio and TV) and expected more Australian music. Icehouse, Max Q, Men at Work and others made some inroads. INXS were huge in the UK. I am aware of underground Aussie heavy and progressive rock bands, but have never heard them. I also know very little about Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel, other than his connection with INXS.

I disagree, their albums far from suck as a whole. I and many Aussies also strongly disagree about AC/DC being the only truly good rock band as well.

Hey Riff Raff...I'm not trashing your opinion mate.

I'm trashing Aussie music compared to the classic rock bands of the same eras.
AC/DC was never my choice of band coz of their heavy blues style. I preferred Led Zeppelins blue style as it went to further magical areas. Butt mate even I can admit AC/DC's status as the greatest Aussie rock band.

I'll say it again, a good band is a consistent band with multiple good songs on their album rather than fillers.

BIG EARS....right on the money mate...! Early AC/DC albums with Bon Scott are the best.

I listened to some Cold Chisel (East) and Jimmy Barnes solo (Freight Train Heart) yesterday on youTube and I thought it was good. I expected it to be rougher round the edges, whereas the production was quite slick, but Jimmy Barnes's voice stood out. It's definitely not as heavy as early AC/DC, being closer to AOR or melodic rock.

Electric Mary are a good Aussie band.
