STRAPPS ........UK hard rock band formed in 1975 featuring
Ross Stagg vocals/guitar
Noel Scott keyboards
Joe Read bass
Mick Underwood drums [ ex Episode six, Quatermass...later with GILLAN ]

A 70s band that had good pedigree and good musicianship but failed to make the big league in the rock world. Some of their albums were produced by Roger Glover and STRAPPS highlight in their career with EMI records was to support DEEP PURPLE. While sadly they were overlooked in the UK and Europe they did have success in Japan.

Musically STRAPPS were bit of an oddity with various musical styles.....the 1st album can be annoying at times with its quirky almost art/glam changes, but certain tracks on the second album make you stand up and take notice.
"Down to you" is a REAL undiscovered gem of a rock track !

Hmmm .. I never did include STRAPPS in the 70s glam rock thread [ because of the Deep Purple connections].....but heres footage of them on "Supersonic" doing their most commercial song "Child in the city".......Where are they now? Singer Ross Stagg is a teacher back in Australia.
Id love to hear those 3rd and final albums..just to hear what musical direction they went in, and from what I can make out they made a live album aswell.

Glad you like them Joe . Its a band I thought about after Sweaty bought a QUATERMASS cd ....another band mentioned in the Deep Purple "family tree".

Quartermass, another great band LOU. Similar sounds to that of Deep Purple, ELP and Atomic Rooster.

Tracked down another song by STRAPPS ,recently uploaded on youtube....a song I had never heard before . A good solid 70s rock tune with quality keyboard work......Enjoy !

E.F played "Down to you" by STRAPPS the other night on his radio show . It really is an outstanding track...one of 70s rock undiscovered gems.
Heres more live footage of the band, also found out Ross Stagg the singer still performs with a band in Australia.....and that he made a very 80s style pop song.

I never knew they released 4 albums.

I have the first on cd and Secret Damage on vinyl. I've never seen Secret Damage on cd, but I'm keeping on the lookout.

I know STRAPPS 1st album was re released on cd with extra tracks Yesfan....but as you say I don't know if Secret Damage was ever released. I have both on vinyl and still yet to track down and purchase the others.
4 studio albums and don't forget the "Live at the Rainbow" STRAPPS "Live" album.....somebody, somewhere has copies of these rareties
