So I was thinking about something. As you probably have noticed, the album 13's last track (Dear Father) ends the same way as the self titled album's first track (Black Sabbath) began, with the thunder and rain. I was wondering if this means 13 will be the last Sabbath album, because it ends the same way the self titled album began.

I know it probably seems kind of silly, but I know another band (Dream Theater) that used the theme of "ending where it began" in their music. In case you don't know, Dream Theater has an album where the last song ends the same way as the first song.

I dunno, thoughts?

Bill Ward Opens Up About His Black Sabbath Reunion No-Show

For original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward, there’s a simple explanation as to why he didn’t record or tour with his bandmates. “I was offered a contract, and I couldn’t sign it,” he said in a recent interview. He refutes suggestions that he wasn’t physically up to the task.

“I would never, ever show up for a commitment that I could not do physically,” Ward told Guitar International. ”So that should answer that one … It was one of the toughest decisions that I ever had to make, because I absolutely and without question wanted to play.”

The drummer is currently promoting a new collection of artwork called ‘Absence of Corners,’ 18 pieces constructed with drum sticks and other percussion instruments that produce light. Images were then captured to make the movements seem like a painter’s brushstrokes.

Ward says he’s open to coming back in the future if the contract is right, but he won’t be a part-time drummer. “I play all or nothing,” he said. Ozzy Osbourne originally suggested that Ward wasn’t in shape to perform. In May, the Prince of Darkness told Mojo about “500,000 bits of paper” Ward had stuck all over his kit during rehearsal.

“We looked at Bill, and he couldn’t remember what the f— we were doing,” recalled Osbourne. “But he didn’t come clean and say, ‘I can’t cut this gig, but can we work something out, guys, where I’ll come on but with another drummer backing me up?’ Or, ‘I’ll come and play a few songs.’ That would have been cool.”

“Playing partially would kind of be aligning to my demise in Sabbath and minimize me,” Ward told Guitar International. “I’m the drummer in Sabbath and quite capable of doing the job.” Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine has been filling in for Ward.

The drummer pointed out that while the decision not to play on the band’s new album, ’13,’ and current tour was agonizing, he had to make it. “I hated the fact that I’m not on the tour and I couldn’t play Birmingham, and all the young fans that wanted to see me play,” he said. “That was absolutely punishing to go through.”

Brad Wilk did a much better job than so many people give him credit for. To fill such big shoes is an enormous ask and he did a great job. I didn't think much of it early on but that was more to do with the album as a whole. Now its grown on me I can appreciate what Wilk has done on the kit.

Ozzy Osbourne: Bill Ward Is ‘Incredibly Overweight’

Last week, Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward disputed Ozzy Osbourne‘s claims that Ward’s physical problems were the main reason he wasn’t part of Sabbath’s reunion. Instead, Bill said, there was a contractual dispute.

Now Ozzy’s firing back, saying not only is Bill unhealthy, he’s fat, too.

“I don’t think he could have done the gig, to be honest. He’s incredibly overweight,” Osbourne told the NY Daily News. “A drummer has to be in shape. He’s already had two heart attacks. I don’t want to be responsible for his life.”

Previously, Ozzy publicly questioned Bill’s mental faculties, telling a British music magazine that during initial rehearsals for the reunion tour, Ward had a bunch of Post-It notes all over his drums. When Osbourne asked what they were for, Bill allegedly replied that he needed them to remember what he was doing.

“But he didn’t come clean and say, ‘I can’t cut this gig, but can we work something out, guys, where I’ll come on but with another drummer backing me up?’ Or, ‘I’ll come and play a few songs,’” Ozzy added. “That would have been cool.”

For his part, Ward maintains that it was always an “all or nothing” deal to him and he never considered doing it halfway. “I’m the drummer in Sabbath,” he said, “and quite capable of doing the job.”

Long story short: Bill was eventually replaced by Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk in the studio, and by Tommy Clufetos on the road.

I would just like to remind Ozzy

lately I can't stop listening to classic BS, the first 6 albums. Geezer and Tony are amazing. Every time I listen, especially the '70-'72 era, I can't help but wonder just what the world was thinking about them at the time. Nobody was as heavy or doomy.
