New album has been released, I've already got it and it's next on my list to be played. So far the single has been getting a lot of attention, and is no.1 in Australia at the moment! It's a very modern sound from Daft Punk, not like the classic electronic robots they were, they've made a smooth funky pop beat aided by American singer Pharrell Williams. The lyrics to this one are admittedly a bit lousy, but the groove is out of this world!
This album is phenomenal! The singles really don't give it credit, as standalones they're successful pop songs which made me wary at first, but not until they are heard as a part of the whole does the depth show itself. They blend funk, soul, rock, prog, house, jazz and everything inbetween but in a way that is so deliriously smooth and accomplished. All the collaborations only add to this flow rather than make it jaunty, it is one collective piece of art. And the final bottom line word to describe it is...SEXY!
My two favourites are the two longest jams, the first is 73 year old Giorgio Moroder telling about his life on the back of some epic epic instrumentation, and the second is "Touch", Paul Williams taking me on a rollercoaster ride of feeling and frustration and passion! Bravo sirs.
