Hetfield = the greatest rhythm guitarist of all time. Dude is phenominal.
I HIGHLY rate Dave Mustaine above him. In fact, Dave Mustaine should've been up there in place of James as James hasn't been able to get back to making true, great Metal for well over 15 years. ReLoad was Metallica's last shot at good Metal with a decent song here or there. ReLoad was good but then they just...:bonk:

are you only speaking of studio work? if so, then you still have 80% of Metallica's catalogue that kicks ass. Two average (or shitty in the case of St Anger) albums don't belittle everything he did before that.

If you are talking about a culimnation of a career, then I still will take Hetfield any day over any other rhythm guitarist based on both the album catalogue as well as every single concert he's ever done. The guy doesn't miss a beat, doesn't miss a note and is hard rocking steady-eddy from start to finish.

And that doens't diminish the others on the list. I just think that he does a LOT mroe than just strum a guitar like some rhythm guys do.

I don't really agree with comparing Mustaine to Hetfield as Mustaine is a lead guitarist as well as rhythm and as far as rhythm guitaring goes I think both are just as good as each other. Whether musically Hetfield has done anything good recently is totally subjective but that does not diminish him as a guitarist.

I didn't say that I disliked most of Metallica's stuff. In fact, I like much of it quite a bit. Putting together the fact that I'm a musician though makes me lean more towards Dave Mustaine rather than James Hetfield. I'd have more fun jamming & would be much more confident knowing that we'd be consistently writing good music together when it comes to Dave. I also prefer Dave Mustaine's personality & humble humility to that of James Hetfield. They're both cool, yet different in their own way(s). Dave clearly takes the cake though. Plus James more so needs Kirk (for lead), whereas Dave can do it all & has done it all on his own. Dave's very much so a lead guitarist while being the rhythm guitarist, singer & songwriter. I like them both & to each his own between who you like more. I still highly prefer Dave any time of day though. Period!:cheers2
