Re: Elton John

You hit the nail right on the head Cosmic, he is nothing if not adaptable. There is a reason for his longevity, besides his need to create and play his music, he is Terrible with his finances. Every few months his accountant will send him a "You are almost broke" letter, and then Elton will tell his promoters to organize another tour. He spends his money as fast as he makes it, I saw a documentary on BBC about him and it's not unusual for him to spend over $120,000 on flowers every year.

Elton is like a pop amoeba. Even 40 years (give or take) of success he is still charting well with every album, even though they aren't as good as his early work and his voice is nothing like what it used to be. I think they only band who was more adaptable through the years and change in taste was Queen.

"$120,000 on flowers every year"? A man has to have his priorities and apparently Elton loves his daisies. Nothing wrong with that. :heheh:

Re: Elton John

Songs that I consider awesome: I guess that’s why they call it the blues, Candle in the Wind, Tiny Dancer, Madman across the Water, Levon, and lastly, Rocket Man. No doubt that he’s legendary in his own eccentric way.

Hey Craig nice to see you. That is a good song, I have reaffirmed my appreciation of Elton after writing this thread and revisiting the early Complete albums not just my compilations.

Re: Elton John

Time to finish my albums in here.

I am going to have to re-evaluate my whole Elton John collection after finishing the next three albums in my library. I have been playing "Madman Across the Water" from 1971 the last three days and I am just blown away by it. I can't believe I waited this long to get a copy.:bonk:

The Title Song.

"Madman Across The Water" is one of my favorite songs by Elton, though I must say I like the original version that appeared on the re-released version of "Tumbleweed Connection" even more than the one that is one it's namesake album.

I noticed that too Cosmic, but I think both versions are good. I have no explanation why I didn't buy this one on vinyl back when it came out, I am just loving it more everytime I play it.

You compelled me to give that album a spin now. Hard to believe that of all of Elton's albums "Madman Across the Water" is his lowest charting.

"Levon" was playing when I was at the mall yesterday and I was singing and my two friends were giving me the "I don't know you." treatment :heheh:
