I hope you don't mind me posting vids with my list Ragged Glory! I've never been a fan of just listing songs as it feels weightless to list favorites with a personal reason why they are there. I'll post them in blocks of five as to not just gobble up space in one post and push anyone elses down. The order here won't be important. I'll highlight how much I like each one in what I say. Also I tried to narrow down my picks to songs that actually carried the emotion of a love song or at least covered the element of it lyrically rather than just use the title!

Ryan Adams-How Do You Keep Love Alive?


I don't think lyrically there's a more moving song on my list. The song really shines the idea of the transition that love has and the sense that it's meant to love and die like anything else and that we aren't meant to understand how our why. From seemingly being soul mates to having an irreparable death of that spark. I think the lines:

"I would have picked for her
On the day she was born
She runs through my veins like a long black river
And rattles my cage like a thunderstorm
Oh my soul"

are the some of the best lyrics I've ever heard and it sticks in my head to this day.

The Smashing Pumpkins-Love


This song describes how we create love to fit exactly what we want it to be and on top of that the ones we choose to love as well. It's distorted sound is appropriate in fitting this vibe as love is just one big distorted carnal void filling need. It's a nice contrast to other love songs and carries a lot of truth.

Fiona Apple-Not About Love


A quirky song for Fiona about the impulsive more lustful part of "love" where everything is great with the less details about someone upon first meeting and how it falls apart once the details come out and the initial buzz is gone. Apparently in this song her mistake was an abundance of truth to which she got an abundance of lies. Despite the lyrical content it's a playful take of things and really about the period of time when people rush into things and have yet to learn not to jump in headfirst!

Bobby Womack-Love Is Gonna Lift You Up


Since the list is about variety I'll push out some rockers, songwriters and folkies for some great Soul and a new obsession of mine with Bobby Womack. This is simply an uplifting song about love which all it needs is the spirit. That's abundant in this song for sure. Love in this case is more universal and a motivator.

Switchfoot-Your Love Is A Song


This is more of a spiritual love song. For people who believe in God this is a beautiful track to portray that. Even if you don't believe in God this is about having something around you that seeps in that fills you with love and faith. What better compliment can you give to an entity or feeling than comparing it to music!
