Barry Goudreau's S/T solo album from 1980, which features vocals from Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo (who was lead vocalist in Orion The Hunter, another project Goudreau was in). This is a smokin' album:

This album sounds like a Boston album. Incidentally, this solo album got Goudreau fired from Boston, because he was stealing some momentum from Boston. I feel Goudreau was just bored and was tired of waiting for Boston to get their shit together for a 3rd album. There was a time lapse of 8 years between "Don't Look Back" and "Third Stage". IMHO, I dont think Boston ever did recover the momentum they had with the first 2 album releases.

Tom really only had himself to blame for losing momentum. I realize he had to make war against record companies, but he really only hurt himself & the fans.

I remember hearing Amanda one morning, when I was barely awake, and thinking I was dreaming.

I bought a bootleg of early acetate demos of Boston songs years ago and it had an "unreleased third album" on it that turned out to be Barry's S/T album.

I bought the Barry Goudreau CD the first chance I had, but the demos are still interesting.

I remember the first time I heard Boston, it was on a Boston radio station and I was blown away. Just a great studio band. To bad Tom was so anal about getting more stuff out there.

Boston the group died when Brad Delp died. Anything else is not the real thing.

Before his death Brad Delp was playing in a band called Beatlejuice. A Beatles tribute band. Got to see them once and it was great. Said hello to him as I was coming out of the men's room and he was going in. He said hi back. This was a small place he was in playing in. He was signing a lot of Boston albums. Wish I would have thought to bring mine, although I am not an "autograph" type of person.

Boston’s Tom Scholz Hasn’t Listened to Any New Music Since 1974

Richard-E.-Aaron-Getty-Images.jpg

Boston have undergone a lot of lineup changes over the course of the band’s 37-year history, but their sound has always remained more or less the same, with very few concessions to current trends. As bandleader Tom Scholz revealed during a recent interview, that’s at least partly because he doesn’t even know what those current trends are.

Speaking with MusicRadar about the upcoming Boston album ‘Life, Love & Hope,’ Scholz was asked for his take on other guitarists who boast a signature sound. Given the Edge from U2 and Andy Summers of the Police as examples, Scholz shrugged and admitted, “I have to confess: I don’t know who they are.”

Perhaps realizing that his response might seem dismissive, Scholz went on to elaborate. “I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but I don’t listen to any other music — not since about 1974,” he explained. “The only times when I’ll hear other music will be at the ice-skating rink or the gym — you know, if I go out and somebody’s playing something. I don’t listen to the radio in the car, and I do that because I don’t want to be influenced.”

Of course, no one lives in a complete pop-culture bubble, and Scholz’s routine does allow for a little exposure to today’s hits — but his musical frame of reference is still the same one he used when Boston was just starting out. “I do hear a little bit here and there — I know what modern rock and current pop sounds like, because I’m exposed to it a little bit,” he mused.

“The closest I can come to answering that question is, I can probably tell you when it’s an old Jeff Beck song or early Led Zeppelin — I can recognize Jimmy Page. I can tell you that I can always recognize a Boston song, even if it’s in a noisy place. I can hear that it’s Boston even before I know what song it is. If a Boston song comes on in a club or somewhere, I notice that it’s Boston, and the second thing I notice is what song it is.”

You know what's kind of strange, at least it's strange to me....

Boston is quite often heralded as one of the best classic rock / AOR bands of all time. Pretty much every single song on their debut album could be heard any any classic rock station (radio or streaming) anywhere in the US at any time of day.... yet their second album might get airplay from just 2 songs: The title track, Don't Look Back and Feelin' Satisified. I can't remember the last time that I heard any of the other 6 tracks on their second release played on the radio.

I never cared for anything other than the debut. It comes close to being cool but never quite gets there. As for Scholz not listening to anything newer than '74, I can't say I blame him much.

Kim Dahme is a hooker/Fact

I was a big fan of Boston but after I found out that they began hiring
fans for their replacement of the original bass player in Boston, I puked.

Kimberely Dahme. What red blooded American male can't say a compliment about her. But lets face it:Boston is one of the worst bands because the minute you hire a prostitute who most likely did porno movies before her small stint in Nashville. Your screwing up rock music. Boston is by far and away a horrible band now. They're not even close to rock music anymore.

That Brad Delp killed himself is proof of how bad they got. A hooker for a bass player is not exactly what I would call rock no roll hall of fame material.

No band like Leppard, Priest, Boston, The Cars they suck. They sound more like the backstreet boys without a purpose. They lost their edge and frankly the city of Boston ruined them. That city is full of sociopaths. And no matter what you say, that city ruined that band.

Any thoughts on the new album Love, Life & Hope?

It was rather unloved by the critics but I think it's splendid. The best Boston (or Boston-related) product since Third Stage.

I heard the album awhile ago. Wasn't shit but wasn't exactly album of the year type at the time either. Mediocre for sure.
