I realize metal was nixed for this thread, but my choice,
hands down, is "Crack The Skye" by Mastodon.
Very 70's sound & feel on there. Great concept, songs & playing.

Released in 2009.

I also really like the Morse era Deep Purple.
I'd pick "Abandon", I guess...last one w/ Lord, & harder
than it's predecessor, "Purpendicular".

Came out in 1998.

This!

I love this choice, I would be going with Crack The skye by mastodon or Nevermind by Nirvana. Too bad we couldn't go a little farther back than 20 years or I might select Surfer Rosa by the Pixies.

for some reason, it totally slipped under the radar, but I think it's a masterpiece...

Two albums that have blown me away and that I would easily put on my all time favourite lists are ...

"At Her Majesty's Pleasure" - Gentlemans Pistols

"Graveyard" - Graveyard

And both bands can pull out the stops live.

Real tough to say but I will (for now) go with The Sky Is Cryin' by Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble.

If i could have answered this thread in 2011, i would go for Nirvana's Nevermind. But since that's not the case, that's my choice:
