I would consider them glam rock or rock but not hard rock.

I personally would consider KISS to be hard rock/glam metal.

:rs: I really wouldnt worry about it . Its just a waste of time argueing about what genre KISS or Alice Cooper are glam/hard rock ....shock rock whatever....elements of all in their music [ even a bit of disco on a few tracks heh heh ]
KISS are a brilliant band, with a great catalogue of albums.......so enjoy !!! :cheers2

I always viewed KISS as pop rock, like the early Alice Cooper and Van Halen stuff. Hard rocking, sure, but with great pop sensibilities, hooks, harmonies, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Glam Rock in the 70's was mostly bands or artists such as:

David Bowie
Sweet
Slade
New York Dolls
T-Rex
Iggy Pop
Roxy Music
Marc Bolin

and numerous others.

Kiss was a rock band, or even a hard rock band that had a theatrical image and stage show that ~could~ be considered glam, but the music itself wasn't even the least bit glam (well, until the disco-ish era).

So to answer the question, it would depend on if you are talking about their look or their sound. In the 80's, KISS could have been grouped into the Glam Metal era of 80's rock, but still, not really what is considered "Glam Rock" which was mostly a 70's era genre.

hope that helps
