Triple M spoke to the legend himself, Gene Simmons, who came out firing against new age pop stars like Rihanna and Madonna. He said they had to lift their game and they were liars.

"My only question is… why don't you have enough balls to get up on stage and tell them truthfully 'look, I know you love me and you love my records but only about half of what you're hearing is real. The other half is canned music like a karaoke singer. It's not real. We're lying to you.' What an insult!" exclaimed Gene Simmons.

"If you're going to charge one hundred bucks for a ticket at least have the decency of telling your fans that only half of the stuff they're hearing is live music and the other is canned or pre-recorded.

"Or have the decency to get up on stage like great bands like AC/DC, Metallica, certainly KISS… and what you hear is what you get. Four people sweating their nuts off with nobody in the backstage pressing buttons or digital this and digital that."

Whoa... he doesn’t hold back!

Lots of people will agree with Gene's opinion on this. He has a way of thinking back to when bands performed "LIVE" on stage and he will get eyes rolling from just as many since technology has progressed to what music is today. Pop has always been loops and samples and pre-recorded dub overs. As it's been pointed out before. Pop stars have a big stage show where they dance while performing soooo. Getting out of breath would be a reason to lip sync during high energy songs on stage.
It just ****** off those who hate to see music go in that direction and become the "Big Seller"

Someone should just make a "Gene Simmons and Sammy Hagar vs. The World" thread and add to it whenever these two open their mouths about whatever they're bitching about that week. :)

:heheh: I havn't been on here much and I see Sammy and Gene still get the insults..
They may have old ways and mouthy attitudes but they speak the truth. In a world full of complainers, no wonder it turns people off.

^^Nice to see you again Slip'nn...:cheers2

I tend to agree with Gene, old school bands predominantly feel the same way about what they see with all this "fakery". It's one thing to use the odd effect here or there, but it's gotten out of hand.

A musical performance should be as real as possible, no autotune, limited dubs/loops, lip synching should be illegal, then take the stage and Show us what you've got.

If someone like Madonna or Rhianna played in a band, I could see his point.

But they don't. They're singers.

And I doubt the people who buy tickets to their shows aren't really concerned with whether or not the music is being piped in. They came to hear the singer.

And don't think for a minute these artists are standing there in front of microphone for 90minutes. They're constantly on the move. What they do is just as physical, and quite possibly even more physical.

I saw Madonna in the mid to late 80s, and it was a freaking spectacle. She danced nonstop, all the while singing, going up and down ramps and whatnot.

I've no doubt the rock bands sweat their n*ts off, but you know what? Madonna was 10x more active than Gene Simmons ever dreamed of being.

Plus, these artists compensate for the fact that only singing by putting on big shows with choreography and whatnot. They fill up the stage for entertainment's sake. They don't have to do that, but they do. They give the fans a show.

And just because aren't out there playing an instrument doesn't make them phonies. As long as they're really singing, thay're doing their job.

As far as it being music synthetic, that's the genre these days.

I don't know what's going on with Gene these days, but he's doing an awful lot of "these people aren't as good as me & my band" yipping here lately, even for him.

Considering how much Kiss has whored itself out over the last two decades in terms of merchandise and commercialism, he really isn't one who should be talking about authenticity.
