Buckethead is 38th. Hmm...

I can live with that, at least he made the top 50, considering how many people have heard his solo work.

Pretty solid list, EVH is 1 though? I mean he's a legend, but... ah, he deserves it, but IMO not the best, def. top ten though. My number 1 would be Shawn Lane.

The whole true punk community is against shit like that and you seemed to be so too. Plus your signature being of Eyehategod, you seem like a Punk to me. So thats why the remark.
@ComfortablyNumb

I'm more against for the fact that there are too many varying factors to take into account.

Half the guitarists in metal have far exceeded the playing ability of players like Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, George Harrison, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, EVH etc.

I'd say longevity is one of those factors.

Sure, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith have been around 30+ years (wow), but the metal fans have a much smaller audience.

When it comes to metal, there's no in between, I think. You're either a fan or you're not.

Sure, there are some 'passive' metal fans, but that group is very small.

The classic rock genre spans a huge audience, and I think that's why they always make these lists. The people compiling these lists vote for the ones they know.

Some people may have never even heard of Glen Tipton or Kurt Hammett.

But everyone, metal fans or not, has heard of Clapton or Gilmour.

Which is exactly why these lists are idiotic and pretty much irrelevant.

No. Playing ability isn't just the ability to 'shred' or play machine gun notes. It is virtuosity.

Did I say it was just that? Don't think so, but I stick by what I said. Their actual playing skill far exceeds that of the guitarists I mentioned. If you want to talk about the ability to compose then that is up for debate, but the their actual playing ability. Ha, not even close. Like I said too many varying factors to determine who the best is because clearly metal guitars have more technical skill than most of the favored guitarists that are constantly drooled over by the older generation who just cant let go and constantly try to say oh well there is no soul in playing today. just total nonsense.

Care to share some examples? If this is clear I'm sure I'll be able to catch at least what you mean.

The guitarists I named in the first post of mine that you quoted.
Guitarists like Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Dimebag, Chuck Schuldiner, Paul Masvidal,Kelly Shaefer, Rand Burkey, Chris Poland, and Marty Friedman are a few I'll name that exceed the playing skill of the ones I mentioned earlier.

Any particular songs that showcase their amazing virtuosity?
