Re: Rolling Stone Top Ten

That's not a bad list all things considered, some glaring omissions of course not surprising.

I really like that DT album and it's almost refreshing to see a 90's band at the top of a poll like this even though it would never surpass DSOTM for me.

Re: Rolling Stone Top Ten

Yeah there are some cracking albums on there LG but the No 1 isn't even my fave DT album. Still each to their own. After long ponderation I reckon that No 1 spot would go to either Tull's "TAAB" or King Crimson "In The Court Of The Crimson King" but that's just me. In fact it would be good to get a few personal top tens going I will ponder on LG and write mine up.:D

Re: Rolling Stone Top Ten

I have no argument with TAAB being near the top.

I have always enjoyed that DT album more than any of their other's, from the first time I played it I thought it was top shelf and it's on my vinyl list too I can get an audiophile pressing from the US and it's not that expensive.:D

I would add ELP's debut to my list and take out Close to the Edge and put Fragile in there...come to think of it my personal list would be a lot different too.:grinthumb

Re: Rolling Stone Top Ten

I adore the Octavarium album from DT and you well know how many Rush albums I would love to cram into a top ten. I am guessing it will be harder than first thought to come up with just ten ???

Yes it would be really hard to come up with just ten, then fret about the ones you omitted...all in good fun though.

Re: Rolling Stone Top Ten

I never think of the great Rush as Prog Rock...though I'm not exactly sure what they are in a genre-specific sense, they are impossible to categorise and have sort of invented their own exclusive sound world, where they are the only member of the club, but I certainly wouldn't myself mention them in the same sentence as King Crimson or Pink Floyd.

^^ But they did push their music forward and bands like Yes were a massive influence. I think Rush can sit well under many labels, As stated it's just for fun but they would be on my list for sure.

Re: Rolling Stone Top Ten

That list SUCKS. Only one Yes album and no ELP albums at all. Also I would consider DT to be prog metal, not prog rock. Here's my list:

1. Mike Oldfield - Incantations
2. Yes - Close to the Edge
3. Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
4. Yes - The Yes Album
5. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
6. Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
7. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Trilogy
8. Yes - Relayer
9. Yes - Fragile
10. Rush - A Farewell to Kings

Honorable mentions: Pink Floyd - Animals, Emerson Lake & palmer debut, Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All, King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King, Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans, Rush - 2112, ELP - Tarkus, Pink Floyd - Meddle
