Hi guys,
I'm after a Best of T-Rex CD.
I've had a quick look around, but there seem to be dozens of 'Best of’s' ! Obviously they can't all be best of.

Is there an ultimate Best Of that I ought to look for ?

Like all my music - I only want original recordings. I don't mind a bit of touching up,,,, but enough about that - back to the quest. Re-mastered could be acceptable, as long as its re mastering the original recordings.

I'd like as many 'charted' T-Rex classics as possible, preferably on one CD/set.

cheers all

its just about impossible to get the best 'best of t.rex' imo. i've just been looking at some and every one of them leave stuff out which should be included.
jeepster, jitterbug love, and new york city seem common ones to miss out.
personally i made my own 'best of'.

Good albums (except Dandy, which I don't have)

I prefer Bolan's hippie/acoustic/Tolkien-influenced period when him and Mickie Finn were Tyrannosaurus Rex (I probably spelt that wrong, but it's 2.30 AM and I'm tired and don't care!) ...those early albums were purely charming poetry and masterpieces, if you can get used to his nasal, whiney, huge vibrato singing voice, which some people I know can't.

Not the biggest T-Rex fan, but I do have Electric Warrior and Slider in the vault and that is all the Marc Bolan I think I need.;)

Yeah, that's a pretty good track listing. There are a few I would take off and replace based on my personal tastes but thats a very good representation of their work.

Electric Warrior is a masterpiece of 70's rock, it's one of the top 10 best albums of that decade, The Slider is good too, a bit more grandiose, but it does include the wonderful title track and Ballrooms Of Mars one of Bolan's most under rated songs. The Tony Visconti production makes these albums pure gems in anyone's collection, it's hard to do a complete best of as many album tracks and some B sides were as good if not better than the singles. (Mambo Sun for example) It tapered off a bit after 1973 with Bolan losing direction and Visconti as producer, still if you dig deep enough you will find some hidden joys, (Thinc Zinc, Solid Baby and Calling All Destroyers being some stand out tracks amongst some ordinary stuff) His influence can still be heard today, check out the Black Keys!

If i was to put together a 'Best of' it might go like this:25 tracks

Children Of Rarn (intro)
Jewel
One Inch Rock
Suneye
Beltane Walk
King Of The Mountain Cometh
Ride A White Swan
Hot Love
Get It On
Jeepster
Mambo Sun
The Motivator
Cosmic Dancer
Raw Ramp
Telegram Sam
Metal Guru
The Slider
Ballrooms Of Mars
Jitterbug love
Children Of The Revolution
20th Century Boy
Thinc Zinc
Solid Baby
Calling All Destroyers
Dandy In The Underworld
