That's what I've been doing myself George getting old classics in the best quality I can find or even 2nd hand shops if necessary.

I bought a beauty of a CD player last winter, it's hand down the best one I've owned. In 1995 I believe it was I spent $2000+ on my Yamaha DSP, it had all the best DAC's available at the time and was an amazing piece of gear. It especially shines when listening to classical music. I don't have it set up right now and am considering putting it up for sale, but before I do that I'll play it a few times to make sure it's still good.

DAC's are great for revealing all the data on the CD, and the analog equivalent is equally as good for vinyl. I am continually amazed by the little phono stage preamp I bought, my vinyl has never sounded this good before and I can't wait for my new cartridge to get here.:D

My move to cds started when I bought this in 1992.

After that I had my dad buy a cd player beacuse I had nothing to play it on. My music was mostly on cassettes and a handful of vinyl that belonged to my siblings. I used to keep a tape in the player and record songs off the radio as mix tapes. I also bought a lot of tapes at the mall as well.

My musical tastes changed a lot since I was younger, so there weren't many tapes I had to replace with cds. I just kept buying cds that i wanted but didn't have on tape. Now I don't buy cds anymore: I buy mostly vinyl and I collect lossless bootlegs.

I spend a lot more time in my den than I used to and it only has a CD player so that's why I've only been listening to CDs for awhile.
But, there are a lot of bands and albums discussed on this forum that I don't have on CD so I'm going to have to start listening to a lot more vinyl.

First CD bought was L.A.Guns. Terrible music but the quality was so much better I never bought another cassette again. Best sounding early CDs I can remember were JP's Turbo and Queensryche's Empire. Both are incredibly well recorded.

I remember how tinny cds used to sound. I never thought I'd buy one but then the sampling rate got higher and many recordings were revamped and here we are. Most of what I buy now is on cd. I remember arguing with people who just couldn't hear the difference even back then. Man, I'm glad it's gotten so much better. They are really convienent.

The first CDs I got were The Beatles - I bought all of them before I moved on to anything else. I do regret selling my LP collection. The people who bought mine were going around buying vinyl to open a little used LP store. The store failed quickly and I don't know what happened to all of their inventory. I often wonder if the used LPs I buy occasionally at a local antique/flea market are some of my old collection.

I get really angry with myself when I think about my "lost" collection.

I got a lot of great vynil about 12 years ago at a shop downtown. Their prices were usually very good. I got a Thelonius Monk album, a Santanna album and two Crimson albums for about $5.
