There was no way I was going to escape hearing rock. In adition to badass (but usually white bread) jazz and blues (classical etc etc) my dad played really good roots and 60s rock at just about every party. The grown up were always playing something at other parties and the radio actually played pretty good stuff when I was a kid.

I remember comming up from the basement as a 5 year old singing Electric Funeral much to my mom's horror (who has since grown a little appreciation for Sabbath my dad never caught), hearing 'Feeling Stronger Every Day' at my uncle's and really 'feeling' it, destroying the lyrics to 'Loirelai' by singing 'gentle as a vampire drooling on a sill' all before really knowing who any rock band other than Sabbath really was.
I remember my dad playing kick ass 50s stuff along with Elton John, Simon and Garfunkle, etc etc.

Yes. There was no way I was not going to like good rock and roll. God love the folks who brought it to me.

I'll give ya two iron thumbs up cause I adore Sabbath, and they are one of the first classic rock bands I was introduced to early in my childhood.

My first memories of exposure to rock music as a child was my dad consistently blasting Deep Purple and Nazareth at brain melting decibels before he passed out drunk (Also The B52's lol). It was kinda funny at the time cause he would be inches away from these 5 foot speakers that would blow your ear drums out. My mom was more of a radio listener, and I fondly remember hearing RHCP and Smashing Pumpkins a lot on the radio when she'd drive me to school.

My older brother had a much more distinct influence on me. He helped expand my music library a lot. And also introduced me to heavy metal. Slayer, White Zombie, Finntroll, Ensiferum, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc, etc. My friend Amber caressed me into the goodness that is Alice In Chains, now they're one of my favorite bands. She also got me listening to more Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, basically she's a walking 90's jukebox.

Once I got into middle school though, and started smoking pot with my best friend (still to this day), she showed me a lot of 60's/70's era rock n roll. This totally blew my mind. We would sit their trudging through music, red eyed and hypnotized by all of what we listened to. The Beatles, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Chilliwack, David Bowie, Blue Oyster Cult, CCR, Jimi Hendrix, etc.

Today I listen to everything. All of that music I still love, but I'm more open minded to new genres and bands than what I was as a teenager.

I heard stuff on the jukebox at the public swimming pool, but I never listened to it much. Then my best friend loaned me the KISS Destroyer album when it came out, and right after that I discovered the Rolling Stones. There was no way back after that!

I discovered my sisters record collection. I would go in her room when she wasn't home and listen on headphones. It was between '76 and '79 as we were living in South Carolina at the time. Skynyrd's One More (For) From the Road, Boston's first album, Allman Bros., Styx...I remember playing Renegade over and over again. Guitar tone and the riffs made a huge impression on me. Also, my family traveled from New Jersey to Florida every summer to visit relatives so I listened to a ton of radio in the early/mid/late 70's.

A Les Paul through a Marshall will always turn my head.

My father was driving me to my first day of 7th grade, and turned the radio on. I bitched at him to turn it to the local rap/r&B/hip hop station. He said do u ever want to hear real music? And i said I hate his rock music (embarrassing now) he popped in the essential aerosmith. I thought aerosmith was a washed up oldies crap band only old people with no taste in music listened to.. then Dream On came on... and I was paralyzed. We keep replaying it, and I eventually listened to the whole comp album. Through time, I evolved my tastes to grunge, 80s punk, 90s post grunge. Still addicted to Aerosmith this day, and I thank my dad inside my head whenever I hear aerosmith on the radio. :)
