you can look at it this way.
- the beatles were mainly a pop band [which dabbled in some brilliant experimental rock at the end] and due to their pop status they reached a lot more people than the stones and zeppelin.
- the stones have a catalogue that spans nearly 50 years, they have had a few hits in that time, but also a few misses, i'm sure if zeppelin had carried on after bonzo died and if the beatles hadn't split up i'm sure the beatles and zep would have had a few misses too.

whether one likes Led Zeppelin or hates em or anywhere between, they were HUGE and are still regarded as game changing, genre pionnering, world reknown, and legendary for all time and space.

i think they are lauded in this forum and other forums. i think of them as the greatest 'rock' band of all-time.
NOT the greatest band though.

I think LZ fit into the alternative category of their day in the way that bands like Metallica did in the 80's. The Beatles and the Stones were far more in the public eye and easily classified as Pop Music, hence they get more attention. That's my thoughts on it anyhow :)

I consider Led Zeppelin to be among the most overrated bands of all time myself.

Before anyone has a meltdown...:heheh:...I'd put the Beatles and Stones in that category too.

There were so many other great artists from that epoch of rock and roll I think the overpraising of some bands at the expense of some very talented less known artists is unfair.

you say you do not like led zep, the beatles and the stones, so i wonder if that clouds your judgement on those bands? [you're gonna say no.]
there are bands i really don't like yet i know that they are good bands though, just not to my taste.
some bands suffer from the 'tall poppy syndrome' unfortunately.

no doubt you realize that talent isn't a defining thing when it comes to whether one band is better than another.
i personally cannot see in the slightest that those 3 groups are overrated. there are far too many music lovers around the world that would agree with me.
its a fact that there were times in those group's careers when they were simply fantastic. saying they didn't goes against common sense imo.
its the truth, whether a person likes those bands or not, its the truth.

also, if they were overrated their songs wouldn't live on like they do, or even get new younger fans in.
some people just do not like ultra-popular, mega artists, no matter who they are. the fact that they get mentioned all the time as something special simply irks them.

^^Where on earth did you get that idea BP?? Overrated doesn't have anything to do with liking or disliking an artist or band.

I simply stated something that's become very obvious to me over the last decade or so that Beatles and Zeppelin fans are the most...passionate about their bands I've ever run into.

I have Every album(official studio releases) by the Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin so I am a fan, but I don't have them on a pedestal or rail against anyone who doesn't revere them. My point was simply there are plenty of other great artists from that period that for whatever reason get shunted to the background that deserve better.

Their music suits my taste much more than the Stones' music. They are at the top of my favorites list along with the Beatles and Rush. Quite frankly I think they are over hyped to some extent. They were regarded as a super live band when in fact that only transpired for about four years until the drugs and lifestlye choices crept into the performances in a negative way. Their last two tours were sub par by the standards they set.
