I give you a 9.5/10 because "you got out of your ignorance" :D

I got into rock music, around 2-3 years ago, i knew many rock bands before that and i've heard their most famous songs on the radio and my mom also listened to these bands frequently, but i never payed any attention i liked the music, but i didn't give it much thought, i don't even remember if i even listened to music then. But i sure as hell remember how i fell in love with rock, it was love at fist hear :D. I was watching some gaming video on youtube and i wanted to pause the video, but i shivered and accidentally pressed one of the suggested videos which happened to be Shine on you crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd, i was kind of bored anyways so i thought 'eh **** it i'll listen to this song i've got nothing else to do' When the song started i had no idea what i was listening to, but a few minutes later a got goosebumps and it didn't stop until the song ended and i was like "...WOW" Right then i just KNEW that rock music was for me (Because of that Pink Floyd is my favorite rock band). And it pretty much went downhill from there, every day i discovered some new song and i never got disappointing from what i heard. I discovered Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Deep Purple, The Who, AC/DC, KISS and so on. I knew about these bands, but i never payed them any attention. Rock and heavy metal are the only genres i listen to, not because i'm such a fanboy, it's just that these are really the only genres i like, i've tried listening to Dubstep, Rap and that kind of stuff, but i never liked it. So yeah that's my story. Sorry for any grammatical errors and stuff.

I'll give you 9.9/10 because you like all the good bands :D Tho some jazz or folk never hurts.

It was around christmas 2010 when my mother showed me some classic rock tunes from Youtube: Bohemian Rhapsody, Another Brick in the Wall, Mr. Crowley and maybe some others I don't remember. I was instantly hooked particularly by Bohemian Rhapsody and I remember saying that "first it sounded like a shitty boy band but the opera part was something else". Of course I learned to like every aspect of the song later. Of course Queen became my favorite band for some months and my first favorite band. I also dug into the music of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Frank Zappa etc. I also started seeking out other genres of music particularly folk from different countries, jazz, blues and so on (thanks to some of the rock bands I listened to). I had liked music before but now I dedicated all of my time to it. So there it is, basically. :D

in my early years i watched lots of 'top of the pops' on the telly. also i have 3 older brothers, so i listened to their stuff on a little mono record-player.
i recall seeing the beatles play the royal command performance on the tv as well, and magical mystery tour. so those may of had an influence as imo the beatles are the greatest band of all time.

I don't know enough about BP's music to offer a rating, I am a big fan of the Beatles though.

My Mom is the reason I love music of all kinds. She introduced me to everything from Classical, to Frank Sinatra, to Peggy Lee to Deep Purple. Without her influence I'm not sure I would ever have gotten into music as deeply as I did.

I started listening to Rock music as a child. Freinds, family, TOTH, The Old Grey Whistle Test and we had some good rock shows on pirate radio then.

In Ireland, most of us are brought up Catholics. At 12 you make your confirmation and people give you money. I remember well spending it on Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak and Skynyrd's One More for the Road. And I remember too how disgusted I was when my mother heard Lynyrd Skynyrd and told me it was great and that it was the kind of boogie music she used to dance to. That was just not cool!

Anyway Rock has been a big part of my life since and these days this is what I'm listening to;

AC/DC – Aerosmith – Afghan Whigs – Alex Turner – Alice Donut – Alice in Chains – Animals – Animals That Swim – Arctic Monkeys – Arlo Guthrie – Ash – Audioslave – Bad Company – Badly Drawn Boy – The Band – Beastie Boys – Beatles – Beck – Bivouac – Black Crowes – Black Sabbath – Blind Faith – Blind Melon – Blue Oyster Cult – Bob Dylan – Bob Marley – Breeders – Bruce Dickinson – Budgie – Buffalo Springfield – Buffalo Tom – Byrds – Canned Heat – Chris Cornell – Chris Wood – Christy Moore – Clash – Counting Crows – Country Joe and the Fish – Cowboy Junkies – Coverdale & Page – Cream – Crosby Stills Nash (& Young) – The Cult – D.O.A. – Damned – Dandy Warhols – David Bowie – Dead Kennedys – Dead Weather – Deep Purple – Deftones – Delta Spirit – Derek & the Dominos – Devlins – Dinosaur Jr – Donovan – Doors – Dr Feelgood – Eels – Elbow – Elvis Costello – Eminem – Eric Clapton – Faith No More – Fall – Fat Lady Sings – Flaming Lips – Fleet Foxes – Fleetwood Mac – Foo Fighters – The 4 of Us – Frames – Frank Black – Frank Zappa – Free – Fugazi – Fun Lovin’ Criminals – Funkadelic - Genesis – Girls Against Boys – Golden Horde – Grant Lee Buffalo – Hawkwind – High Llamas – Hole – Horslips – Husker Du – Iggy Pop – Imagined Village– JJ Cale – Jack White – Jam – James Vincent McMorrow – Janes Addiction – Jeff Buckley – Jefferson Airplane – Jesus and Mary Chain – Jello Biafra – Jethro Tull – Jimi Hendrix – Joe Cocker – John Lennon – Johnny Cash – Johnny Winter – Joni Mitchell – Joy Division – King Crimson – Kings of Leon – Korn - Leatherface – Led Zeppelin – Lemonheads – Leonard Cohen – Linkin Park – Lou Reed – Lynyrd Skynyrd – Mama’s Boys – Manic Street Preachers – Mastoden – Meat Puppets – Megadeth – Mercury Rev – Metallica – Mick Flannery – Mike Scott – Minor Threat – Miles Kane – Molly Hatchet – Motörhead – Mountain – Mumford & Sons – Muse – Nathaniel Rateliff – Neil Young – Nick Cave – Nick Drake – Nirvana – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – NoMeansNo – Oasis – Only Ones – Papa Roach – Paul McCartney – Page & Plant – Paul Weller – Pavement – Pearl Jam – Phil Lynott – Pink Floyd – Pixies – PJ Harvey – Pogues – Primal Scream – Public Image Limited – Queens of the Stone Age – R.E.M – Raconteurs – Radiohead – Rage Against the Machine – Rainbow – Ram Jam – Ramones – Ray LaMontagne – Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Red Kross – Reef – Richie Havens – Robert Plant – Robbie Robertson – Robert Cray – Robert Fripp – Robin Trower – Rocket from the Crypt – Roger Waters – Rolling Stones – Rollins Band – Rory Gallagher – Rush – Ruts – Santana – Seasick Steve – Sebadoh – Sex Pistols – Show of Hands – Siouxsie & the Banshees – Skatenigs – Smashing Pumpkins – Smiths – Something Happens – Sonic Youth – Soundgarden – Spencer Davis Group – Stephen Malkmus – Steppenwolf – Stevie Ray Vaughan – Stiff Little Fingers – Stone Temple Pilots – Strokes – Sugar – Superchunk – Suzanne Vega – Talking Heads – Teenage Fanclub – Temple of the Dog – Ten Years After – The The – Them Crooked Vultures – Therapy? – Thin Lizzy – Tim Hardin – Tom Waits – Traffic – Tunng – U2 – UFO – Undertones – Unthanks – Vaccines – Van Halen – Van Morrison – Velvet Underground – Verve – Waterboys – Whipping Boy – White Stripes – The Who – Wilco – X-Ray Spex – Zombies – ZZ Top

Oh and meant to rate Lord Grendel 10/10. Music is subjective and if you're enjoying it, I can't argue with that...

I also watched Top of the Pops and my mum listened to the radio a lot. Peggy Lee was played a lot on BBC radio in the sixties. I had a friend with an older brother, with a good ear for music, and he was a big influence. My grandad bought Johnny Cash's Sun Recordings which I loved. It's funny, but my sister has no interest in music at all.

I like classical music, but but my knowledge is not good. Frank Sinatra is good and Peggy Lee is a part of my childhood. Deep Purple are one of my favourite bands. I think Bruce prefers newer rock music, like power metal, whereas I'm old fashioned. I like heavy rock like Budgie, Robin Trower and Golden Earring with progressive bands like Yes and ELP.

SuperShane, Looks like you and I have something in common. Our love of Pink Floyd! They're my favorite band too. But that didnt come about until I was 14.

I remember hearing lots of 50's and 60's oldies when i was a little kid because my Dad would always have the radio on out in the garage.

I have an older brother and sister. Their tastes are super different. My brother was and still is a metalhead listening to DIO, Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Megadeth all that stuff and my sister was more into Madonna, Journey, dance music, Fleetwood Mac, etc.

I grew up in the MTV era, the early eighties. I was 10 in 1987. So I watched a LOT of MTV, back when they played videos.

So guess I took a lttle bit from each of them and my dad because I still enjoy all that music as well as classic rock and prog.

As for the Floyd, I credit my brother with that: In 1990 MTV aired the Knebworth concert and he asked me to tape the Pink Floyd portion for him. I still have it too! I was blown away amazed at the music. I'd never heard such grandness before in music. Everything before that was just sappy bubble-gum pop crap to me. I quickly became obsessed and watched that video almost every day after school. I think my brother only ever saw it once! Now i'm a full blown Floyd freak!

As I've gotten older my tastes have grown too. I like a lot of jazz fusion, folk guitar and prog now. I'll listen to almost anything once but there are a lot of things I know that I dislike too, such as rap/hip hop, ska, punk, country and reggae.
