^ well it's up to people to decide what they want to do.

I've hit problems with people on forums over an difference of opinion and even a view could be deemed offensive. Having a buddy system is simply another dimension to add on top of everything that's here. :(

I look at it as a courtesy, people that are with us for any period of time know whether I enjoy their company or not, that is more important than any "friendship request".

Having said that I do send them rarely, once in a while a new arrival gets my attention and we establish a rapport then I will send one. I don't send them on a whim either, someone will have to be here a while before I do that.

You are probably right but I'm (fairly) young and I only have 6 friends here :wa ................... and I don't delve deeply into the world of social media either. I prefer to get out there and mix with real friends. I guess I'm old fashioned that way :D

I suck at making friends offline, I have numerous friends offline but all live interstate so I figured it would be cool to have some friends online as well seeing as more often then not it is the only way I can talk to people. I think it is good to have online friends, having people as friends from different corners of the world is awesome to me.

^^^ Yes I can understand what you are saying Riff Raff. I have a friend who now lives in Katherine in the Northern Territory which is fairly isolated and she has lots of on-line friends now.

I do understand the concerns though people have with online friends, people often have said to me how do I know some of them are who they say they are?
I understand that but at by the same token how do I know I ain't sitting next to a serial killer on a bus? How do I know the people around me haven't been criminals at some point? I think there needs to be a balance so people don't live in fear of these things, its one thing to have awareness, its another to live in fear of it.
I don't have such distrust in people online anyway, some may be fake but I won't tar everyone with the same brush.

^^^^ I never even thought about that Riff Raff. I am a very trusting person - too trusting some people have told me. The main reason I'm not on-line is lack of time. I work two jobs which I love and by the time I get home, have dinner, talk to hubby then go to bed there is simply not much time for anything else. Weekends are spent catching up with friends, in-laws and as much time as possible with my husband.

As far as being too trusting I can understand that too. But that was more of people in person at school then ever online. When it comes to friend requests on a forum, I prefer not to read too much into it, some have their opinions on it which is cool. Mine is Ill accept friend requests when sent, there is no one here I don't get along with. I try my best never to make enemies. lol

I'm about the same way. Most of my offline friends including people I've been friends with since childhood don't live anywhere near me and certainly not close enough to socialize in person regularly. Fortunately I live in a part of the USA where people like to go on holiday and that's often the way I am able to get together with some far-away family members and friends! I have even met a few of my online friends in person this way! (Usually meeting up in Orlando.)

My main problem locally had been meeting people who share my musical interests, are into music as much as I am, want to socialize doing music related things AND are also halfway sane individuals! :heheh: It's very cool meeting like minded people online from all over the place who I can discuss music with.

It's both wonderful and amazing how cool the members of this forum seem to be and the forum itself is such a cool place to hang out. I've seen and been places where there's some real over the top lunatics. It's not like that here at all which is GREAT! I don't have a problem with the friend requests here.

Yes, I agree, making friends with people online who are from literally all over the world is quite AWESOME!!! :grinthumb
