Probably 90% of the 'rock' music I play these days is singer/songwriters, though any form of 'rock' probably only accounts for 50% of the total music that I listen to, the other 50% is classical, opera, choral, and jazz. I hardly ever listen to metal/hard rock anymore, but I do love 'folk-rock' and some 60's classic stuff, if The Doors was an actual sub-genre, they'd be right up there!!

My favourite subgenres:

- Psychedelic Rock
- Punk Rock
- Post-Punk
- Garage Rock Revival
- Hip-hop
- Grunge
- Folk Rock
- Indie Folk
- A bit of Prog Rock

Of course I listen to some other genres, but maybe a few bands o a few songs of those and not like many albums by many bands.

Right behind you!
Progressive Rock (Yes, Jethro Tull, Rush,Pink Floyd, Kansas)
Blues Rock (Led Zeppelin, Cream/Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Jimi Hendrix)
Heavy Metal (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Rush(?), early Queen)
Southern Rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, ZZ Top)
This sums up my favorite subgenres quite nicely (bold for my personal additions :grinthumb). Though, my old man would probably tell you that Zeppelin would be considered "hard rock" (at least when they first came out lol) and that Rush isn't "heavy metal".
Also Idk if I'd consider Hendrix "blues rock". Wouldn't he fall more under "psychedelic rock"? Or does anyone consider that a subgenre of rock?

Jimi Hendrix described his style as 'freaky blues', although the term 'blues rock' probably wasn't available to him. To me it's blues rock, which is the blues cranked up a bit. He was similar to Cream, who also included elements of jazz and psychedelia, but when all was said and done, they were still the blues (but turned up to eleven). In any case, Jimi was so far ahead of his time that, forty+ years later, a track like Voodoo Chile still blows everything else out of the water.
