I AM SOOT!
We all have artist that are under the radar and we think should be elevated or that everyone should here! This thread isn't about that! This is about the artist that you seem to have a synergy with that not only never found an audience but you haven't even found someone who partakes in the liking of that artist. Your playing them just gets an awkwardness or dead silence! Maybe they are really weird or just aren't accessible to anyone else but you (that you know of)! If so I say "Good for you!" 
and I hope that you liking them is good enough! I want to know this artist and why YOU like them! I'll give you my example:
I bought a compilation called "The Old, The New, The Undecided" which was a compilation for a label called Undecided records. I picked it up at Wally World because it had a really cheap price tag of 5 bucks and I was hoping to discover a new band. I didn't find a band but I found an artist. After a long list of blah punk bands I found an out of place dramatic piano ballad on there called "Warm Black Shadows"! The guys had a deeper tone of voice then I've heard and sang with an intimacy towards the piece that I really dug. I looked everywhere for it but since it wasn't major label I had to check all my options. I finally saw it at a borders:
The cover struck me as both eccentric and personal. I bought it and what I found was some of the most intimate songs I ever heard. That's why I think it never connected with anyone else because Scott connects so much it's almost as if you feel you should leave him alone and give him space. It would come off as indulgent if it wasn't so raw and real. I read up on him afterward and this album was a tribute to his twin brother who had died. It's no wonder why it was so personal! My friends either were like what the hell is this and my usually open minded friend thought it was corny in parts. I kind of understand his sentiments. In parts of it musically it has some potentially corny parts but if you connect to it as a whole then it's the ultimate catharsis! O.K., that's my example! What's yours?

I don't know if David Hemmings would be liked upon first listen either but if he is you've got the advantage over my pick because I know he's not for most people to listen to!
