One of the most common themes particularly in Rock music is the being on the road constantly away from your family theme! There are also ones that embrace their traveling lifestyle and name drop all the places they've been! So travel and the road in one way or another is a common theme in music! What are your favorite songs like this! Some of mine are:

"ZZyxx Rd." by Stone Sour

"Driving" by South FM (more of a metaphorical road song)

SouthFM – Driving – Free listening at Last.fm

drip drip drip on the windshield
all the cars pass me by
on a long road from somewhere
in a car with no lights
but jesus told me to come here
and judas says its a lie
and maybe I'm doubting thomas
but only when peter denies
its going to be a long way home from here
saw a girl on the roadside
she was holding a book
she read me chapters and verses
and all the things I mistook before
all the things that she told me
were things I already knew
she's the perfect reminder of all the things I've been driving through
I guess it just gets lonely in this car
I thought that you might stay and keep me awake
all the roses
wrapped in letters
that were never sent
to the girl who needed them the most
you're a liar
back seat driver
such a whiner when things get complicated
keep it simple so everyone will understand
there's a chance that a change might occur in the depths that I'd go for you
still i keep driving
unaware of where I'm driving to

"Song For The Road" by David Ford

Well the day casts down
Lengthy shadows on unfamiliar towns
I drove 300 miles from the place I call home
And I tip my hat to the angel of the North

And the sun sets fire to the heavens
On the hills over Sheffield tonight
And I'll sail over this countryside with new friends and old
And we are no where, but man, we're alright

So you can keep your belief in whatever
I'll wear my cynicism like a tattoo
While poets try to engineer definitions of love
You know all I can think of is you

And I can't wait to see you on Sunday
Far from the traffic and the smoke and the noise
For this evening I will play back every message that you sent
And I will sleep to the sound of your voice

Now I don't like using words like forever
But I will love you til the end of today
And in the morning when I remember everything that you are
I know I'll fall for you over again

I know someday this all will be over
And it's hard to say what most I will miss
Just give me one way to spend my last moments alive
And I'll choose this, I'll choose this, I'll choose this
I'll choose this, I'll choose this, I'll choose this
I'll choose this, I'll choose this, I'll choose this

The Long and Winding Road by the Beatles.
On the Road again by Willie Nelson

The best of all in my opinion though is Turn The Page by Bob Seger

It's in the Cat Stevens thread though I'll post Portobello Road in here! :D

Another good one is Dire Straits - Telegraph Road, though is it about Destinations & Travel? Anyway I couldn't seem to find a good video of it.

Mr. Shadow-I really liked that Neil Young song! I like him anyway but I'd never heard that song and I really enjoyed it! :grinthumb The Bruce Springsteen one was good too!

Midnight-Turn The Page is a perfect classic for this theme! :grinthumb

CP/M-Never heard that Cat Stevens song before now! Sounds like I thought it would though which isn't a bad thing since I like him. I just listened to Telegraph Road and I don't know why it wouldn't count. I thought the following youtube vid was good for people who want to here it:

Dire Straits-Telegraph Road
