I have always liked Neil. Great songwriter and performer. Heard many complaints over the years about how bad his voice is, but I think it fits his songs perfectly.

I agree, Neil's a legend. He's a very talented musician. Most people only see him as the raging, flailing man on the stage but when he mellows out on the piano or acoustic guitar, he just oozes purity and feeling.

Re: The Official Neil Young Thread

Picked up this old album a couple weeks ago. It's been so long since I played it I can't remember any of the songs so it's like a brand new record to me.

Can't wait for the new album!

LG that's actually one of my favorites. Loooooove the country style on it, and it sports some of Neil's most ferocious guitar work! Plus... Will To Love.... quite probably my all-time favorite epic-lengthed acoustic Neil song. One of the coolest songs ever made!

When Neil wrote it he brought it right away to CSN for them to record together. They listened to his demo recorded and said basically "dude, you nailed it, we're not going to record anything better than that." So he put out the original version. Lo-fi! Hahaha

I got "Harvest" in the mail yestrerday, my first Neil Young album, i like it.

Neil Young doesn't get much exposure in the UK so i wasn't 100% sure what to expect, i'd previously heard "Heart of gold" but all the other tracks were new to me.

While i like the songs on the album, i think his voice may take a bit of getting used to.

Neil may LOOK old but gosh he doesn't sound it!! You could tell me these tracks are from 1977 and if I didn't know better I would bet a large sum of money that you were right!

Anyone get the new album?? Even though it's an album of covers, it sounds as original and Horse-y as anything Neil's ever done. I'm about as impressed as could possibly be. First Crazy Horse album in 15 years, and the best album Neil's done in 15 years. Coincidence? I think not. ;)

Bocephus -- Welcome to the club, dude! Neil has about a million and ten albums to explore if you're interested. Harvest barely even begins to scratch the surface. At the bare, unmitigated minimum I would recommend you include Everybody Knows This is Nowhere and Tonight's The Night in your collection as well. :)
