Kansas is one of the most commercially successful progressive rock bands of all time. Kansas has been around since 1971, but didn't become active as a band until 1973.

Official Website

1974 Kansas
1975 Song for America
1975 Masque
1976 Leftoverture
1977 Point of Know Return
1979 Monolith
1980 Audio-Visions
1982 Vinyl Confessions
1983 Drastic Measures
1986 Power
1988 In the Spirit of Things
1995 Freaks of Nature
1998 Always Never the Same
2000 Somewhere to Elsewhere

Best Album:

Track List:

"Carry On Wayward Son"
"The Wall"
"What's on My Mind"
"Miracles Out of Nowhere"
"Opus Insert"
"Questions of My Childhood"
"Cheyenne Anthem"
"Magnum Opus"

After this album, IMO, Kansas shifted from their prog roots to a more poprock/hard rock sound.

Re: Kansas

I don't think Kansas was the most commercially successful prog band of all time. I think Genesis, Yes and, if you consider them prog, Pink Floyd and the Moody Blues were all more successful by almost any measure. I don't have any data to back up my assertions though...do you?
I will say that Kansas was certainly one of the best though...top 3 or 4 in my book.

Re: Kansas

I think this is their best album:

7612074.gif

1. It Takes a Woman's Love (To Make a Man)
2. Two Cents Worth
3. Icarus (Borne on Wings of Steel)
4. All the World
5. Child of Innocence
6. It's You
7. Mysteries and Mayhem
8. The Pinnacle

I've seen them three times. Once with Alan Parson's Project, once with Styx and once on their own. Steve Walsh was with them every time. The last time I saw them @ HoB Robbie Steinhardt was with them. I got some pix somewhere. See if I can scan and post them.

Re: Kansas

I love Kansas, Magic has posted my all time favorite album of theirs, but I like all of them from their debut right up to Audio Visions.

Here is another great album, Song For America.

Re: Kansas

Kansas has been my favorite band for quite a while. My favorite song ever is "Song for America." I saw them in 2008, and they are still great live. Peace and goodwill.
