Buddy Guy Discography

My bro and I bought tickets to see him in February. I know he's a living legend and that Jimi Hendrix played in his band for a little while when he was starting out. Other than that, I don't know much about him.

What should I know about Mr. Guy? Anything that would help me appreciate the music more. Songs to listen to? Historical info? Etc?

Re: Buddy Guy

I've seen Buddy Guy in concert at least four times. He's a great guitar player with an awesome catalogue, but he has a nasty habit of extending every single number he plays into a twenty minute jam. Therefore his catalogue is wasted since he ends up playing only five numbers.

:wtf:

Here's my favourite Buddy Guy tune though:

Re: Buddy Guy

Absolute legend IMO, unbelievable guitar player and an amazing showman. I got lucky and saw Buddy in concert with Jeff Beck at the Liverpool Big Top. Brilliant night of outstanding musicianship.

Released October 25, 2010

Living Proof is Buddy Guy's 26th studio album. After nearly fifty years in the music business, this was Buddy's highest charting album ever, peaking at #46 on the main Billboard album chart.

The album loosely follows the progression of Buddy Guy's life. "Living Proof was designed partially as an aural autobiography from the legendary Buddy Guy, opening up with the stark summation “74 Years Young,” then running through songs that often address some aspect of a working musician's life."

My Source: Buddy Guy's Legends

1. "74 Years Young" 4:34
2. "Thank Me Someday" 5:42
3. "On the Road" 4:11
4. "Stay Around a Little Longer" (feat. B.B. King) 5:00
5. "Key Don't Fit" 5:02
6. "Living Proof" 3:45
7. "Where the Blues Begins" (feat. Carlos Santana) 4:37
8. "Too Soon" 3:26
9. "Everybody's Got to Go" 3:57
10. Let the Door Knob Hit Ya" 3:44
11. "Guess What" 5:44
12. "Skanky" 4:16

Re: Buddy Guy

I bought Buddy's SWEET TEA album released in 2001 about 5 years ago and thought it was brilliant!!. A very live (and loud) in the studio recording of 'voodoo blues' from deep down in the badlands, the only criticism is that this cd is a single cd and not a double cd cos i would have liked to have heard more of these sessions. :grinthumb

Re: Buddy Guy

Buddy is great, check out some of his albums. You can also see him performing with the Stones in their Shine A Light film. Keith gives his guitar to Buddy at the end of their song, something Keith rarely ever gives away to anyone.

2003 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album!

Buddy Guy's Legends

Buddy Guy unplugs for a rare album length excursion into Acoustic Blues.

"Blues Singer one of the bravest and most poignant albums in his catalog."

~ Hal Horowitz ~

I have always been fascinated with Acoustic Blues, it`s so natural and after listening to Blues Singer front to back several times, it`s easy to see why this won the Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album! This CD just went to the top of my all time favorite albums! 9/10
