Thanks Iggy. I'm definitely going to check that site out tomorrow. I don't really feel like i can focus enough to play guitar today. I feel way too mentally absent.

This isnt a tip for a total beginner, but if you will ever want to play rock\metal leads learn to bend and vibrato properly before you learn to play fast, for about 2 and a half years I wondered what was missing in my guitar playing..

Thanks valentin. I've been making a bit of progress but not as much as I'd like to be making. I practice every day but I think I'm going to sign up for lessons once a
week.

A, D, E & G. Learn these chords and the pentatonic scale and you'll be able to figure out a lot of classic rock. Zeppelin, AC/DC, Ted Nugent etc...

Only tip I can give is make sure you're holding your guitar pick between your index finger and thumb. Much easier positioning. There are a lot of helpful videos, tutorials and such that can help you on the internet. Make sure you practice EVERY day, at least 15 minutes I'd suggest. And try to develop callused fingers, once you have those it doesn't hurt to use the strings as much. And have FUN, don't be afraid to experiment.

I remember when I was just starting out. I took lessons for a year and a half, but my teacher and I stopped seeing eye to eye, so I stopped. I'd say go for the lessons until you're physically good enough to teach yourself. It can be hard to stay motivated if you've got blisters on your fingers, so they'll be worth it.

Find other musicians in your area and play with them, even if you know nothing. Thats how I learned, and once your good enough to get the sound for your ears, by some tab books. Make it a goal everyday to learn at least one song, and play it over and over. This way your muscles will memorize the patterns and you don't have to think about it as much. Start with something easy, like the eagles or even some Metallica. Then move to the harder stuff.
