I have her first three CD's and I liked them according to reverse order.. As she got away from her "Skater image" her music started to change IMO..
Her first CD was a big hit with me.. Funny how me and another friend on here would try to bring her music into the forum and only to be shunned by negative comments by everyone.. It's good to see things have changed!!

I went through a very small phase when I was 10-13 with her. After "Let Go" and "Under Her Skin" I moved on quick. Some less poppy/I'm a tomboy with attitude kind of songs I liked :
This one hits my heart string, it was played at my best friends funeral. She hung herself a week after her mother did. She was a day shy from her 14th birthday. We grew up together and I had the honor of picking the song. It's as if the song was made for her and how we all felt.
Her name was Bre.

This girl is, hands down, my favorite. I see there are some others here that recognize her talent.
Her voice doesn't have the range of the Mariahs and Christinas of the world, but she's got it all over those types of singers, and you wanna know why?
Because she's a musician. She plays several instruments, has written and understands how music works. Her arrangements are always full and textured, but never too overly done.
With Mariah and that bunch, yes, they have incredible range, but they insist on clubbing you over the head with it every time they open their mouths. It's soooo over the top.
"Just so you don't forget, here's my great voice and incredible range...again. Oh, and there's some other guys playing some music underneath it all, but it's really all about me and my great voice and incredible range. I'll do it again on the next track, too, just so you don't forget about my great voice and incredible range"
Avril uses her voice to enhance the song, because what is a voice, really, but another instrument? She understands that and that's why her songs are so well crafted.
And, she's either written or co-written every song on every CD.
You have to at least respect that.
Avril is my girl, for sure.
Plus, she has a wonderful belly button.

I'm glad this thread has been getting a variety of responses. Some from rockers (Slipn'), some personal thoughts (Grunge) and some great writeups (Vehicle). I like that this artist should be a dark horse here but still commands some respect.

I cant wait for Avril Lavigne new album possibly coming out in the fall, October, November.
