Re: The Official DOORS Thread

There was a post on here about Ray Manzarek's new album...but it must have been deleted! Anyways after I saw that post I went and bought the album, particularly because I love The Doors and I am really familiar with Roy Rogers' previous stuff. You guys should really check it out! It's a really nice blend of classic rock and jazzy blues.

Well, the weather is slowly growing colder, and you know what that means.

It's time for my annual, winterly Doors obsession to kick in.

^ A Doors obsession should be happening year round!

I just remembered that I have a picture on my phone of a "Morrison Hotel" Bar that I took when I went down to Portland. I saw it as we drove by and I literally had to look back again only to be surprised that it had said what I thought it said. So I snapped a photo, however, i'm not posting the photo, I don't have my phone on me atm. But trust me, I have it.

Re: The Official DOORS Thread

L.A. Woman is IMO the best blues album by Doors.

Seconded. L.A.Woman is the most complete album of Doors, it has a track to suit every mood. From Riders of the Storm for the 'blues mood' to Roadside Blues for a 'mellow mood' to the title track L.A. Woman for one of those peppy times.

Riders of the Storm is by far, my personal favourite, after People are Strange.

Nice song to bump the thread with! My favorite from their S/T has always been The End, or The Crystal Ship...

And Soul Kitchen :grinthumb

The Doors

the Doors, What more can I say. They are one of the most influential classic rock bands of all time. their records will withstand the test of time. People will be listening to the Doors in 2030. For the short 7 years they were a band, Jim Morrison and the Doors made a mark in rock n roll that will live on forever.

This may be heresy to diehard fans, but I always liked Mosquito From Full Circle, which was recorded and released after Jim Morrison passed away. Having said this, Jim Morrison could never do any wrong for me. Even Hello, I Love You, which seems superficially catchy, has more to it than meets the eye (or ear). Released in 1966, The End, written as a love song, was, at 12 minutes in length, years ahead of its time. It's amazing that the bass lines on the early material were played live by Manzarek, using his left hand on the keyboard. The technique may no be unique, but for a full-on rock band it has not often been repeated. NME described LA Woman as 'a tour de force' and it was certainly a considerable influence on the British bands who followed throughout the seventies.

Does anyone know which song(s) influenced Riders On the Storm. Despite having constant radio play during my youth, it always had a familiar sound. It was later much copied by Stanard Ridgway, The Cult, Echo & The Bunnymen and many others.
