To get this thread back on topic, the 80's was a glam era, like it or not. It wasn't all bad music and the greats of the 70's were still pumping out albums like Cheap Trick, Kraftwerk, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Rush, and The Rolling Stones.

I myself personally liked alot of the bands of the 80's. One that comes to mind is U2. Joshua Tree is a fantastic album. And les we forget Motley Crüe. Girls, Girls, Girls, and Dr Feelgood were kickazz albums.

Moving on to the pop side of the 80's Run-DMC was the best! They still scare white people LOL. Walk This Way Aerosmith cover from 1986, which is pretty humorous.

No, I cant call the 80's a loss of any kind.

Edit: what is wrong with a person listening to mainstream radio, NOTHING> most people dont listen to just one station all the time anyway. I wouldn't say I listen to the hip hop stations, but that is my personal preference.

Erm, bands like Guns n' Roses, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue were the bands that I think shaped that 80's sound. Def Leppard was first and they had all the harmonies, and then Quiet Riot and Motley Crue sparked that whole Sunset Strip/L.A. scene which spawned GNR, in my opinion the best band of the 80's.

Let's not forget that a lot of rock bands recorded disco songs in the disco era. The Rolling Stones were full-fledged disco on Miss You and Emotional Rescue.

If you define those two Rolling Stones' tracks as disco, you must be defining "disco" as nothing but a certain beat. But why then should the Rolling Stones and all other rock band completely abandon the beat to the likes of John Travolta and his leisure suit wearing buddies? Are you going to tell Charlie Watts that he can't play that beat on his drums? I wonder what his response would be?

:wtf:

And if you are defining disco as nothing but a beat, it can then be good - if bands like the Stones and the Kinks have recorded to that beat. After all, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the beat.

What was wrong with disco was John Travolta and the whole fashion de jour Studio 54 crowd.
