I love Led Zeppelin and in my opinion John Bonham was a very very good drummer but when I hear people say he is one the best if not the best drummer ever, I just don't get it. But he certainly gets the job done and then some. Greatest ever? Hmmmm.....

I'd have to agree with you. And I have nothing Against Bonham, I think he is one of the best drummers but I see quite a few sources listing him as the absolute best rock drummer, which I think is untrue. What I will say about Bonham is that he has an instantly recognizable groove, but just a few I'd put ahead of him: Carl Palmer, Ginger Baker, Bill Bruford, and Terry Bozio.
Keith Moon was so inventive and so revolutionary the way he played the drum-kit that I'd honestly think he should be judged under his own terms (much like Hendrix for Guitar).
