First off, I didn't say the people that are fans of him didn't like his music. I noted that his popularity comes from most of the haters. If his fans actually like his music, than more power to them. My point was mostly along the lines of his popularity is getting bigger and bigger the more people trash talk him. And some of the popularity comes from people actually liking his music. But the amount of haters is unfortunately a lot bigger than the number of fans he has, you can at least agree to that.

He had to become popular before anyone would have bothered to hate on him, because it's his popularity that they hate. Nobody in their right mind goes around hating on random 16 year olds singing love songs.

I straight up don't understand how being hated could be what's making him popular. He's not a satanic artist reveling in degeneration or something. Radio stations don't play his music because people hate him, people don't buy his music because people hate him. The hate gives him a mild publicity boost, but since he clearly had to become popular before the hate would begin, fans drawn in by hate-inspired publicity can only possibly be a fraction of his fanbase. Speaking of publicity, do you ever see anything on TV about how people hate Justin? 'Cause I don't, I just see regular publicity for a pop star. I can't even remember any Daily Show or Colbert Report clips bashing Justin.

I know a lot of Justin Bieber fans, and hate has nothing to do with their being fans. I know in youtube comments it might seem like hate is the main thing Bieber-mania traffics in, but if you cue into his main demographic the hate is no more prevalent or influential than with any other popular artist.

Case in point, if trashing an artist was all that someone needed to do to gain fans, Rebecca Black would be as popular as Justin Bieber. But she's not. She's famous but she's not actually popular. She's an artist who is actually popular because people hate her. She wasn't a recording artist, she was a punchline. That's the difference. Justin might get hate but he's never been like that at all.

Still laughing at the mentality that not being a fan of this generations' answer to Donny Osmond automatically means you hate all contemporary music and are stuck in a time warp.

I just don't understand why so many are wasting their energy ganging up on a nice kid who never did anything to hurt anyone.

every generation has its overexposed pop star that you either love or hate, right now it's Bieber, Lady Gaga has the same type of thing but she doesn't have any stans here defending her honor.

My issue isn't with Bieber but with AAG telling me that disliking Bieber negates everything else I have liked in the past five years. By this logic, are all the 70's fans "haters" if they didn't like Shaun Cassidy or The Osmonds?

I know a lot of people who listen to modern pop music but don't listen to Justin Bieber or find him to be representative of the genre any more than Nickelback does with contemporary rock. Adults not liking the latest kid craze doesn't make them old fogeys who only like "old stuff", it just means they're not 12 year olds or pedophiles (you want 30 year old male Bieber fans... go to ******)

And to add to this, with that logic, people wouldn't be allowed to have their own personal likes when it comes to music. People making judgements about other people's music taste based on whether they like or dislike Justin Bieber has to be one of the most entertaining and pathetic opinions i've ever heard.

Bruh, I don't even listen to Bieber myself, I've said that a million times. I'm not looking for Bieber fans at all, let alone ones of any particular age.

I used this thread as a jumping off point to discuss more than just Bieber and get into modern pop as a whole. I like to do that when I can, it's a discussion forum after all. I'm deeply and genuinely sorry if I didn't adequately differentiate between comments aimed at you and comments aimed at music in general. In my rush to discuss music I was careless with my articulation and choice of words. Add that to the fact that I often addressed multiple posts in each post (with or without distinct quotation) and it's no wonder it seems like I was attacking you. :/ I do think we had a pretty decent discussion though, which is pretty much what I'm here for.

And to add to this, with that logic, people wouldn't be allowed to have their own personal likes when it comes to music. People making judgements about other people's music taste based on whether they like or dislike Justin Bieber has to be one of the most entertaining and pathetic opinions i've ever heard.

I'm not sure there's a single person on here who has done that. I sure as Hell have not. I wouldn't be surprised if every single post of mine in this thread mentioned that there's nothing wrong with disliking Bieber.

If there's a single thing I've made abundantly clear it's that I believe people can have their own opinions on music. But Bieber's not the only artist that's been discussed in this thread. Read back and you'll see modern pop in general was brought up, do I need to point out the post? And I tried to show how there's no reason to believe this decade will have any less enduring acts than every other decade has had.

Some people have nothing better to do apparently.

I have no problem with Bieber,,,I will never buy any of his music because I find it utterly bland and forgettable.

However, even though I am not a fan artists who release music or are in the public eye as much as Justin are fair game. There is nothing wrong with saying you love him or dislike him as long as you don't insult anyone in the process that's part of what makes talking about music fun. We can't all like the same stuff, that would be boring. Me, I'll question the artists merits, but never insult their fans or take it personally when someone I like is on the receiving end, life goes on.

Two years from now I don't think we will be talking about Bieber anyway, there will be another "New Kid On The Block" by then...as the factory keeps pumping these phenoms out for a particular demographic to enjoy.:grinthumb
