It will be more easy for me to say what prog sub-genres are not between my favorites .
So, I'm not very much into:

Zeuhl (I tried Magma few years ago and didn't work for me)
Crossover (Maybe I will have to work more on Procol Harum and The Moody Blues )
Experimental/Post Metal & Post Rock/Math Rock (I really hate the term of "post metal/rock" :D although I like Tool :grinthumb)
RIO/Avant-Prog

I like them all. I consider the metal stuff to be more a part of metal than prog though. It's called progressive metal not metal progressive. I've had arguments with people about this though so obviously not everyone sees it that way.

Ok, I just saw that the subcategories were taken from P.A. so now I understand. Yes, they do it that way and have a lot(maybe even too many in fact)sub-genres.

The progressive rock genre covers such a expansive range of musical diversity and influences thus resulting in many sub-genres that have devoloped and progressed through the last four decades.

With this poll question, if you like, elaborate on your choices you chose from the poll. With this discussion, remember that this is personal thoughts and expressions and should be respected. Agree to disagree politely. By no means feel you have to expand on your choices and why, as it's just an option.

The following sub-genres are taken from the site Progressive Rock Music Ultimate Discography ... with Free MP3, Videos and Reviews and are defined extensively and give excellent examples of the leading artists for each sub-genre and reviews of thier albums. Here's the list and a few example of the artists that 'define' the sub-genres:

Canterbury Scene: Caravan, Gong, Soft Machine
.

...Egg should be here, the founders and still the best ;)

poll is active.

If you voted on this poll in the past, you can change your vote if your music tastes have changed.
