Re: Grateful Dead

In memory of Dick Latvala!

July 26, 1943 - August 6, 1999

On August 6, 1999 Dick Latvala died aged 56 after being in a coma caused by a heart attack. Latvala worked with The Grateful Dead since the early 80’s looking after their archives of live performances which became a series of 'Dick’s Picks' albums.

Dick was the ultimate Dead Head!

Re: Grateful Dead

I wonder how many of the members of the Grateful Dead are...well dead...

I've seen his Bootlegs all over the place...I always wondered where the name "Dick's Picks" came from, thanks Garrett.:grinthumb

And thanks for all the great music you've made accessible Dick Latvala.

Re: Grateful Dead

It's so sad to scroll down this thread and see dead members of The Dead one after another. Damn. I'll never have that privilege to see them live :(

Re: Grateful Dead

Also, I have recently watched this beautiful movie calles "The Music Never Stopped", focusing about huge Deadhead that tries to connect with his family after he suffers brain tumor. Brilliant story, wonderful music and extremely recommended to anyone who declares himself as Deadhead, I found myself in Gabe's character. Peace!

Re: Grateful Dead

In memory of Jerry Garcia!

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Re: Grateful Dead

I've always known he had a unique sound, due to having 4 fingers on one of his hands, if memory serves. I am a bigger fan now than I have ever been of the Dead.

Don't have any of his solo albums or New Riders either though, I will look into them when I am finished catching up on the Dead side of things.

And that is a great poem, says everything so exquisitely, thanks for sharing that gem Garrett.

I love Roger Dean`s art.....Yes and Uriah Heep album covers are classic! I had a few of his posters decorating my walls back in the day....you know, black lights, hanging beads and such! :wtf:
