I have heard about the Crossroads Guitar Festival with Eric Clapton and friends and I was wondering if anyone has the dvd? I guess there are actually 2 of them. One is from 2004 and the other 2007. Any opinions?

i've seen the 2004 edition, it's been a few years but if i remember right.... if you like listening to endless blues based pentatonic electric guitar solos then it's fantastic. there are a few who deviate from the mold, mainly vince gill and robert randolph. all the other featured guitarists are good but not really doing anything we all haven't heard many times before. buddy guy and bb king are ace as always. john mayer surprised me since all i'd ever heard was his radio stuff. james taylor and clapton were doing their thing by the numbers. and the santana 'interview' is laughably bad.

Thanks for the input guys. Jeff Beck may make the whole thing worth it just for that. B.B King would also make it worthwhile. It's not hard to imagine a Santana interview as laughable either. But I still think I will have to invest in it. I know PBS has had the concert on at fund raising time too. Maybe I will have to keep an eye on it.

Saw it on PBS last night.

Crossroads Guitar Festival Chicago.

"Eric Clapton leads an all-star blues lineup that includes
B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer,
Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy; host Bill Murray."

And Johnny Winter. =)

I liked it. Not sure if I would buy the DVD.

I remember this but only vaguely remember it. I do remember John Mayer, who is really much better than the poppish singles he's known for.

I saw the Chicago one not too long ago on PBS. Saw part of it anyway. I thought it was pretty good.

Robbie Robertson was there. Clapton introuced him like this " Play Guitar......Robbie Robbie Robertson" just like they introduced Clapton in "The last Waltz" many years ago.

I saw a few clips from the 2004 shows a while back, and think it's a great idea every few yrs to keep the blues alive.
I'll buy the dvd cause my brother and I will really enjoy it!!
