Nothing on this thread since 2011 and i'm posting here because Sweet Home Alabama was not mentioned:

A Southern man don't need him around anyhow"

Sweet Home Alabama would have been my first suggestion as well - I think it stands particularly as it was part of a sequence of songs between Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd - initially Skynyrd objected to Neil's social commentary on his songs Southern Man and Alabama, and hence wrote Sweet Home Alabama as a response, before Neil then followed this with his own response, Walk On from On The Beach.

Given that you've already had that one, I will give what I think is another fairly obvious choice which fits the bill - Smoke On The Water, where Frank Zappa is directly name checked, along with a less direct reference to The Rolling Stones.

"You Better You Bet" by The Who mentions T-Rex.
"The Seeker" by The Who mentions Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Timothy Leary.
"Surrender" by Cheap Trick mentions KISS.
"God" by John Lennon mentions Jesus, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley.
"Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" by Sugarloaf mentions John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
"James Dean" by The Eagles mentions...well, James Dean.

Yep, Smoke on the Water is a famous one and i'm also surprised it was not mentioned earlier.

Lennon's God is another good one. He also mentions Hitler, Buddha, Yoko and Kennedy (which Kennedy, he doesn't specify).

Weezer's great '90s hit "Buddy Holly", which also mentions Mary Tyler Moore.

Neil Young's "Pocahontas" mentions Marlon Brando.

Sleater-Kinney are less known but one of their best songs is called "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" and also mentions Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth.
