Hi folks. I came across these forums quite by chance whilst browsing for news and views in the classic rock genre. You've got an interesting and informative place here, and I have to admit it gave me quite a kick in the pants to see how succesful it is . . . a previous attempt of my own to get a rock forum going faded into obscurity pretty quickly.

It's good to see that the more mature fans (ok, old f@rts - just like me LOL) are still hanging in where great music is concerned.

Well my name's Pete and I hail from the sunny? south coast of England. I used to run a record store in London back in the 70's, in the good old days when discs were made of vinyl and had covers that could almost be regarded as art in their own right. I've been collecting good music ever since . . although I'm long enough in the tooth to realise that "good" is quite a subjective issue ;)

I've recently started another forum which isn't dedicated to any specific genre, but does have a radio station (SHOUTcast stream) which covers a wide range of music in general, and classic rock in particular when I'm playing myself :D

Ok - intro's done. I'm off to have a look around now . . . hopefully I'll come up with some obscurities that no-one's mentioned here yet.

Well what can I tell you? They were halcyon days indeed, although I was a manager rather than the owner. If I'd owned it, we would have probably gone bust pretty quick, since most of the stock would have ended up in my personal collection LOL. The company (Harlequin Records) had around 60 stores in London at the time, and quite a few others dotted around the UK.

The only drawback was that I'm not really a "city" guy, but as a keyholder my job was dependent on living in London. Towards the end of the 70's I'd had enough of city life and took off to see a bit more of the world. Ended up working as a barman-come-DJ in a nightclub in Andorra (more halcyon days) for about a year, and eventually returned to the UK, where I've lived since.

I accumulated a fair music collection along the way, much of which I still have, although there's been some losses which have proved hard to replace.

It's probably fair to say I'm still very much "stuck" in the 70's from a music perspective, although I still manage to find quite a bit of good music around . . . it just takes a bit more time to hunt it down these days.

Anyways - thanks for the welcome guys :)

nice to meet you, Pete!
you know, I like a lot of stuff and I try to keep up with what my friends and kids like...
but, I find myself sort of 'stuck in the 70's' myself. It's the music I don't seem to get tired of. Everybody else at my house is pretty tired of it!
welcome aboard!
