From the list, I voted Jimi Hendrix.
Jimmy Page would come in second.

Also, allow me to mention, Peter Green. IMHO, he is an outstanding guitar player who came out with incredible heavy blues-rock music, before he unfortunately, "took that trip, after which he never came back"...

Bad list, no Iommi, no Blackmore, no May...

Ron Wood? What? First off why not Richards?

Ron Wood??? He mostly played bass in the 60's and his guitar playing is average at best.

This thread should not be called "the best..."
it should be "your favourite..." as all the
guys mentioned are damn good.

Anyone can learn to play guitar but it takes
someone special to become a vituoso, to be
an absolute expert etc etc

But for me the man who took guitar playing
into another dimension was the one and only
James Marshall Hendrix.
