I agree Taha, for mobile music cassettes were great...8 Tracks were extinct almost instantly.

I did see a nice Nac on e-bay a few years ago, but I have two decks now and they'll last me my lifetime.

Digital music has helped me a lot though, I dont wear out my cds unless I wanna use them in a real cd player.

^^I consider CD's/DVD's digital Riff, but I get what you mean. I have All of my CD's ripped and stored on a Hard Drive. In case something happens I simply make a new "perfect" copy. I'm not replacing my library ever again.:nw:

Whenever cds of mine wear out and dont work I always end up with another copy lol, hate not having certain albums in my cd set, is it OCD or just collectively a really big fan of those bands?

I've never worn a CD out myself...but a few years ago I started using "EAC" to rip and archive all my CD's. That way I can make a new replacement if I need one, for the cost of a blank CD and a jewel case. But in a few more years CD's will be extinct, and everything will be purely digital downloads, I only hope we get Lossless options not just i-tunes crap.

I think the only real way to wear our cds is repetitively playing the same songs for hours on end, thats why I dont use my physical copies of the albums often. I do tend to listen to some songs religiously. ( no shame in doing so :) )

^^I have well over 6,000 albums now Riff, it would be impossible for me to wear them out...but I would advise anyone who likes their CD's especially the rare or OOP ones to make copies. That way you don't have to worry about buying another one, if you can find it at all.

Aren't those also quite a chore to set-up and start? I am aware of users who said that they made superior recordings on them because it utilized a larger tape.

Threading reels was kind of an art form all to itself. Not hard to master, but it took a little care. Just one more analog "ritual" that's pretty much lost to the mists of time.

And it was not only the physical size of the tape (1/4") that made for higher fidelity, it was also the tape speed (after all, 8-tracks also used 1/4" tape, but operated at a relatively slow speed). The more magnetic particles that made their way past the recording head per second, the greater the potential fidelity. That's why cassettes weren't considered hi-fi in their earliest incarnations - they were hampered by both tiny, narrow tape (1/8") and slow tape speed (1-7/8 IPS, if I remember correctly, when most R2R studio machines ran at 15).
