I think Phil Spector was sort of a bad pick as a producer for Lennon, I think he would do better with a good arranger producer like George Martin.. Jack Douglas did great on Double Fantasy, they are the only..... "Modern" sounding Lennon recordings... although my heart would have preffered a Beatle reunion, and some new songs like Norwegian Wood and Strawberry fields... I sort of Imagine if he had lived.. I think of Peter Gabriel and all those Sledgehammer style.. groove tunes, and those types of sounds... when he cowrote fame with Bowie..that portended things like that.. I can sort of Imagine a Lennon album..... grooving like A Sledgehammer type thing..
I Think he would have sort of retired after a couple more albums anyway..maybe popped back around every eight years or so like George Harrison...
The other thing... I wouldnt be surprised if Lennon would have died in his late forties or early fifties anyway, with all his self abuse , drinking, drugging. mild mental illness, weird macrobiotic diet, binging on coke... chain smoking, would he really have lived into his seventies, he looked pretty bad at forty.. he was so thin. I wondered about drugs or even the *** virus which started about that time, as double fantasy..
God wouldnt two or three or four more albums been fantastic!
Recently I have been compiling, a Sometime In new York City,,, removing Yoko
I edited Luck Of The Irish...it sounds great, editing out her verses...bloody fantastic
and I added Happy Xmas. and I tried to re --EQ Attica State, to make his voice more prominent... and I added Power to the People...which fits right in.. a political song from
late 71, I added the GOD SAVE OZ with Lennon singing... and I added Do the OZ> and I had enough tracks. with just John to basically get rid of most of her tracks.... not to be rude or anything... anyway the result is great, best production Spector did with Lennon great fidelity and sound very lush.. INstant Karma might have better production...but the 72 spector tracks sound much better than the Imagine tracks.... its like a great lost little jewel.....fixing up the 72 album... no offense to Yoko, but I just dont want any Yoko with my Lennon music
